i decided to hook up the pod guage i brought for my hatch in my coupe, but i want to make sure i do it correct the first time. the vaccume guage has a hose that you have to hook up to a vacume source. i tested it by hooking it to a spare nipple in the back side of the intake manifold. my questions are is this a good place to hook it up. what should my gauge be reading. i think it read like 20 or 25. will this change once i run boost.

18-21 in vac should be fine. Any lower you either have a vac leak or a shitty engine

so if it was 25, or higher does that mean i have a problem?

doubt it, if the engine is running fine and smooth, the gauge might be off. I wouldnt worry about it, what kind of gauge is it (brand)?

you should be running in neg psi then when you punch it it should go the zero and no higher...i believe that is the way it works if your not boosting

i dont think there is a neg.

this is a vacume guage not a boost guage if that is what your talking about

if your engine has 'negative boost' thats called vacuum.

but yeah as long as you are in the range that accordepicenter said, you will be fine. i had like 22-23 hg/in (inches of mercury) when i had my delta 272 cam installed

i know on my car '86 DX that vacuum line #2 (going to the black box) is directly off the intake manifold . Theres even an inline disconnect all ready there (for testing reasons). just t off to the gauge.
