Long story, but the center beam ( the crossmember that goes from the front beam to the rear beam under the engine ) is messed up. I need to replace it. Is it safe to drive without it? See link below, item number 1

In the meantime I need to find one at the junkyard.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hmmm... I would't think It would cause any problems mechanically, But I wouldn't recommend driving without it, at least if you don't have to. Especially on the highway ! That beam supports the structural integrity of the car. Definetely an imporntant part!

Thanks for the replies. I will not drive it until I replace it. I guess I needed a second opinion to save me from my own stupidity.

$87.00 before shipping. I'll check the local junkyards.

Thanks

Thanks, I bough the part before I read your e-mail. I bought it for 30 dls at parts for less. That was the cheapest from the ones I called and the closest one from work.

Check the rubber mount that bolts on to the lower part of the bellhousing. The mount sets in the bottom crossmember. It helps on unwanted stress on the front & rear motor mounts under torque along with the dog bone (top) motor mount.

Then I guess everyone with B-series swaps are screwed cause none of us have it. It doesn't work with the B engine in there. Mine has been out for almost 2 years and I've never had any problems.

b series mounts are hugely different and b series engines do not need it. Why you need it is because that mount plays a large role in keeping the engine rocking from side to side in the engine bay. Without it, sooner or later whats gonna happen is youre gonna turn a corner and have either the axle fall out of the transmission or the inner cv joint come apart on you

You don't need it. It is not structural. All it does is supports the engine to help reduce the load on the front and rear mounts.
I know for the fact that on both of my accords, the rubber on the bottom of the tranny didn't even touch the crossmember.

So you're saying with 4 other mounts, there's enough play to tear up your axles? I find that hard to believe. I helped put a new clutch in a CRX the other weekend and we had the motor held in with the 2 side mounts before we tried putting the front and rear in. We could barely push the engine around to line the bolts up for the others. We needed a pry bar.

Here is the story: I replaced the steering rack 3 years ago, and I removed to center beam to do so. But once I put the rack back, the holes for the bolts on the front end of the beam didn't quite lined up with the holes on the frame. So what did I do? I left the front bolts off.

So for 3 years I have been driving with only the rear part of the beam bolted onto the frame. But now that is completely out of the car, I just don't want to drive it. I figure I have been pushing it for way too long, it's time for me to take care of my baby!

It's almost at 200K. But the tranny and engine are the original though.

Try this. Don't tighten one side to tight. Leave the bolts just started in the threads about 2 turns on one side, then try to start the bolts on the other side.

Edit- Happened to me when I tighten one side of the crossmember to tight.

Well, the center beam from the junkyard did the trick, it did fit. Thanks all for your input.
