what do you mean no choke? you removed it... or it has never worked right?

You're best bet is to get a chiltons or shop manual and look up the section on choke tuning.

Na i still got the choke thinging on my carb but wont rev at first thing in the morning like it use to, I'm sick of having to nurse it till it gets warm that's all.
I got a hayne's manaul but it doesn't say much about it.

sounds like the puller that first keeps the idle up isnt working. isnt that like a fast idle puller or something? if so then i'd check on that. i know mine doesnt work that well.

Well thats fast idle, the choke is something else, your unloader may be getting vacuum when it shouldn't. could be a thermovavle problem... I remember some people connecting straight manifold vacuum to the unloader bypassing the thermovalve and that kicked off fast idle pretty quickly.
