:wtf: PLZ Help!

OK I changed my oil for the first time my self yesterday. I put quaker State 10 w 30 in and I used the stp filter. When I was driving about an hour later it was fine. I decided to go look for work and about another hour into it, the car starts grinding and shaking like no tomorrow! :wtf: I checked the level and it was fine just below the top hole so I added a lil more but not much. Still the prob persists. HELP!

is it actually grinding... because when i had something similar to this it was a wheel bearing... the shaking happened too. but the shaking could also be from a lack of fuel to the engine. 2 of my injectors crapped out once and it did some wicked shaking. so check that stuff.

I think my bearing may have finally given out but I'm still uncertain. Tomorrow iI'm crakin into it.

It might not be a bearing, I slipped a bearing and drove my car for about 100 miles thinking it was a rod knock. A grinding noise from the motor kinda puzzles me. Have you felt any loss in power?

I'm not sure if it was the engine, It came from the front driver side...that's about all I know right now. Was it difficult to chang your bearing? Any advice if it is the bearing?

It was easy to fix for me I just replaced the motor. I dont know if your in a position to do that right now. If it is the bearing you'll have to pull the motor, pull the head, take apart the bottom part of the engine, get the crank journals align bored, if its the rod journal bearing you'll have to either regrind the crank or get a new one.

Quaker State oil is a paraffin base oil & will cause the motor to sludge up REAL quick. That oil sucks balls & shouldn't even be sold on the market.

I could care less about what they say I run the quaker state full senthetic
high rpm 10w-30 and I run it HARD , we'll see how it goes. If the oil doesent hold up and I get sludgethen I'll just flush the motor.

Quick word on Quaker State and Pennzoil:
They will both cause your engine to sludge up if they are not used consistently. If you're going to use a Pennsylvania oil, you need to flush your engine out first, and I mean completely flush, not just drain the old oil out. The only way to use those oils is if they were the first oils put in your car. Conversely, if you do use them consistently, do not switch back to standard oil without a flush. Standard and PA oil are not compatible, that's what causes the sludge.

I would recomend castrol syntec, or at least the syntec blend. That's all I ever use and I've never had any problems with it.

Also, 10w-30 isn't really the best oil for your motor. Honda recomends 5w-30, and for a good reason. The way honda engines are built, they will sludge up easily on higher weight oils.

I quaker State synthetic only I grabbed it only cause it was for "high mileage" This is the first time like I said before that I have done the oil change at home.

Older Honda engines have different requirements than new ones. I used to use 10W-40 until I learned about how shitty that blend is and switched to 10W-30. Your owner's manual will tell you which oil to use, but I haven't heard of anyone using 5W-30. Do you have some information to back that up? I'm interested.
Most road racers and other types who abuse their engines agree that the best oil value for the money is Mobil1 full synthetic.
I have also heard from a number of sources that there is not much of a difference between synthetic brands and standard "dino oil." My recommenendation is to save your money if you can't afford full synthetic and just go with standard.

Edit- Quaker State was a parrifin based oil back in the day. They could have changed that since then. I'll never use that brand of oil.

Sea foam eh, for what? I flush my engine almost every time I do a tune up :)

I just put a quart of kerosene in mine before I do an oil change and run the engine for a few minutes. I do that once in every 10 oil changes. You guys do realize that paraffin is a natural component of all crude oil. It separates out during the cracking or refining process so I'm not sure what paraffin based oil means.

iv never heard of ppl using kerosene, but i have heard alot of ppl using ATF (automatic trans fluid), they ususally have alot of clearners in them and help cleaning out the motor

If you buy the engine flush at say Advance Auto and smell it, it smells like kerosene. A mechinic friend of mine told me about it and it works well.
