So I bought a "shifter bushing kit" off of eBay, I then removed my center console expecting to find some nicely laid out linkage and such...but no. Just the shifter sticking out of some rubber boot. So, um....not to sound stupid or anything, but how in the hell are you supposed to change shifter bushings if you can't get to them?

you have to drop exhaust and heat shild to get to them.
expect to spend a lot of time droping exhaust if you still have stock one.

are you serious?? You have to drop the exhaust just to work on the shifter?? UGH, now I wish I hadn't even bought them. I thought I could do it just sitting in the car.

If only it was always as easy as it sounds...

heh, so I actually have to do this from underneath the car?

Yes. Use jackstands or get a lift.

its worth it imo, i replaced mine and shifts feel 10x better. btw dont expect the bolts on the exhaust to come off without a fight, i would spray them down with penetrating oil a day in advance.

Would this help with gear grind or is that a synchro thing?

I would think changing your transmission oil would be better for that problem.

I'm on that thread.
There's a difference between masking a problem and fixing it entirely, though.

Let me know how it goes. With about 230k, I think new bushings would be sweet.

I think hes talking about the Energy suspension CRX kit . Its a dog bone bushing (looks like one) and the 2 piece bushing for the front.

I 'd atleast change the front bushing in the torque rod. That made a big differance in my shifting under power getting into 2 and fourth gear. You can do that one relatively easy by jacking up the front of the car.
