Do a Weber Carb 32-36 DG series conversion. You can get the carb on Ebay for probably <$100. Then you can order the adapter plate separately. There are a few guys on the board who have done this. Someone with a few more details please respond :)

How do you advance your distributor? And I do have a flipped lid. but that really didn't do a whole lot. I was thinking about getting a weber but I wanted to make a air intake first.

Well I know the 86 87 have a 4-1 manafold but the 88-89 have a 4-2-1 but that might only be LXi I do not know

i have a 88 lx, so if i got a exaust manifold from a 89 lxi it would help performance??

I am not too sure check and see if you have an 4-1 design or 4-2-1

Yes I think you should gain some horsepower, the lxi has runners more like headers, and flows better,a low buget hp gain. But you need flexpipe also.Boneyard looks good.

would i need a new exaust manifold gasket? or could i reuse my old one? sorry i have no experience with exaust manifolds,
this is a mod i AM going to do soon, i will be sure to post results

I never done it its just a idea, experiment. There maybe problems with those pollution piping bull. Plus with the 0-2 sensers. Dx only has 1 and lxi has 2...But I'll say the lxi sure looks more free flowing. Won't cost much.

well the pollution pipping shit is no problem since i would just rmove all that shit if i got the lxi manifold and the second o2 senser i can get a guy at my local muffler shop to weld that hole up for a few bucks.

so i would need the lxi manifold and flew pipe? will all that just bolt to the cat with no problems?

so are the lxi manifolds the 4-2-1 desighn?

yes, and just plug the extra 02 sensor port

Mantis88LX

and the lx's are just 4-1 right?

and do i need the lxi flex pipe?

LX is 4-1, pacesetter made 4-1 lx manifolds but somewhere along the line dumped the idea.
Not sure on the flex pipe... but it couldn't hurt to pull one off the same time you pull the header.

4-2-1 is better tho right?

It has it's advantages, like more torque or something... but if I make my custom header it's gonna be 4-1.

Your going to need the lxi flex pipe, I'm assuming the cat converter is the same for lx,dx,lxi.....maybe call a parts store to verify. The dx outlit is just to small and not same bolt pattern. I would bet an increase of 10-15 horses

I just called pep boys and they said they only list 1 converter for entire line of 3-gs. I'd put the 0-2 senser from the dx in 1 side and just leave the other one alone.
I'd bring a hacksaw and hammer and chisel to boneyard..I had a entire exshaust on my shoulder for my dx and had to remove cat out they wouldn't sell it whole. some law against it I let me tell you those bolts from flex-pipe to cat where not coming off for nothing. I had to chisel the cat to free it from the flex-pipe.
I would hack off behind cat flange, and chisel that pollution crap off rather then using a pipe wrench. Nuts on manifold should be fine to come off. An entire 3-g exshaust hangs there basicly with rubber gromments. I had the whole exshaust out quicker then removing a radio outof a 3-g.
