Well im going to get my whole exhaust done and i have a question about Catalytic Converters. I went to the magnaflow website and they have alot and i wondering how does it compare to my 18 year old cat.

exhaust stuff:
Headers(used Pacesetter) might clean it and hit it with some high heat paint.
muffler-Magnaflow 2.25 in and out
Catalytic Converter-??? high flow Magnaflow???

im looking for a good set up...i was looking that pacesetter has one but its 2 inch i want to make my whole exhaust 2.25 inch. i already went to the exhaust shop and they said they will charge me 120 for install on everything.

I've heard really good things about just about any high-flow cat. Stock cats in cars as old as ours seriously sap power.

you can use any universal cat-theres no bung for a O2 sensor or anything so you dont need to worry about that-you can always run a test pipe as long as your state is a emissions whore

If you're going for a new cat, just get a new exhaust to go along with it. It'll cost more, sure, but the gain in power and mileage will be worth it. Then just get a cat with the same diameter. If you don't do this, you'll just have to get rid of it when you do get exhaust.

I'm doing the exact same thing with the exact same parts this weekend. Any way you could make a video or audio file of how it sounds?

sweet! looks vaguely similar to mine. but mine has a bigger cat and a fart can. i'm thinking of getting mine redone, but with another glasspack in the middle after the cat to keep things even quieter.

i still have not made up my mind. plus the tips the shop had were not the biggest selection.....and i was low on cash.

sorry...my digital cam does not take sound.....but inside the car it sound nice and deep. outside the car its a bit loud...lets hope i get use to it or i will have to get a resonator...its not too loud at freeway speeds....but if i punch it the thing will rasp(kinda like a fartcan :thumbdn:) a bit when im changing gears.

That's the reason I went and had a resonator installed after on my setup, it got a bit too loud for me on my commute.

yeah, that's how mine is too. 1/4-2/3 throttle, it's nice tone, but if i really punch it and especially above 3k rpm, it sounds a bit raspy. but overall, it's still a lot better than most of them that i've heard.

I listed some cats in this thread... the other links also provide good info on the each type and some user feedback.
