I am sure this has been asked before, so please forgive me.....has anyone tried the "HID" headlights which are being sold on Ebay? Here's a link:

The price is so low, I don't know if I should even bother trying them....how could they possibly be any good? Are they even as bright as the stock bulbs? Do they look good? are they reliable?

Has anyone bought these? What did you think of them?

Well, those are just HOUSINGS. There is nothing HID about those.
They are just a simple H4 replacement lense.
Oh, and you are right they are crap, and you won't like them.
*edit* refer to this threadhttp://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46914.
I have TRUE HID in my car. And I have invested about $450 ish for my kit and housings.

ill agree with 3gn86lxi. REAL HIDs go about $300+ just for the kit. you'll have to get those housings first before getting the kit. but they are worth it!!!

$100 bucks for the car. not a bad buy!!!

nope, not bad at all, considering I drive it to work every day. :) It runs really well actually. The rear fenders are gone where the bumper retainers go in, but that's the worst of the body work that needs to be done....the rest of the body is minor stuff.

How much do the replacement bulbs cost when they burn out?

Bout $100 per bulb.

geez....how long do the bulbs last?

I'm leaning pretty heavily toward sticking with OEM at this point....putting 300 dollar lights on a 100 dollar car is just silly.

i paid about 150 for my h4 conversion there def better then stock seald beams and im half way there when i go to hid's witch should be soon

I have no doubt they are superior lights....hell they'd better be for that price lol....I just think I need to spend my money on other things first, like getting the motor running perfect and fixing the body where it needs it. Then it needs paint, wheels, and then I'll look into the headlights, probably around the same time I put on a lip and spoiler....Hopefully by the time I'm done it will basically look like a new one, with some very subtle mods.

HID's can last a long time, depending on how often their used. I had a friend who had them for 3 years til one bulb burned out. I paid $350 and installed them myself, they're the kit with High and Low beams.

yeah, I hear you. I'm sure they're not too terribly expensive, so I'll see what the local store has to offer.

where do you get the medal headlight conversion housing for the HID's?? cause i hear that if you use a plastic one (wich i believe i have...) it will melt do to the temp of the bulb....

hondaaccord_86
06-02-2006, 01:16 AM
i bought my headlight conversions from ebay, they're just a generic set. with HIDs, the temperature of the blub is A LOT cooler than regular blubs. i am able to touch the lens w/o burning my hand. plus, with the plastic ones, it shouldn't melt. (...it shouldn't...)

I agree with hodaaccord_86, HID's are alot cooler running that halogen bulbs.
The part of the conversion that gets really hot is the ballast.

You could.............but, you will have HELL bad glare. Those housings are junk as far as putting the light where it should be.

For a "retro fit" the best housings to buy are either Hella E code, or the Autopal E code. I have the Autopals, and I have VERY little glare. Nice cutoff lines. The main thing is that you get a good kit with deflectors on the bulbs themselfs, that makes a huge difference.
I am looking for a kit to do my driving lights on my motorcycle right now, it's hard to find kits that will work on bikes.

also, (sorry for all the q's) how hard was it to setup everything, and to get it working.

and how much was the TOTAL cost for everything,
Thanks!

Total cost was around $400 for my setup. I got a very high quality kit, that is a bixenon. So I have high/low beam, which alot of the kits are only low beam.
It was very easy th install, it took me about an hour or so to put it in. And it was just plug and play, no customizing of anything.
I will try to find the thread I started about HID, or search for my threads and you will find it.

i have the Sylvanias, that i got from autozone. i think there called COOL BLUE or something around that nature, and for sealed baems i gotta say there pretty good. i cant complain for around 30 bucks a set they are alot brighter/better than OEM replacements. i saw a couple of HID kits on ebay for 200 bucks. but im not sure if they are hi/low beam or just low beam i'll try and find the link and post it.

spanky...

here's a link for a universal kit on ebay for less than 200 bucks:

You can expect to pay well over $200 for a bixenon kit. Thats actually the kit I was looking at for my motorcycle. It's small so it can fit.

ive got those lights currently, would the plastic casing "melt" due to the heat?
also, does it make a difference in heat what k the lights are (6000k, 8000k..) thanks!

Like I have said, those will work, BUT you will have very bad glare with them. You also run the risk of getting pulled over by the popo with those.
NO HID conversion is legal, so the worse the glare, the more likely you will get in trouble.
The 6000k, 8000k, is color temperature. The higher you go in kelvin #'s, the more "blue" color you will have. My kit in my car is 8000k, and it's pretty blue, 10000k starts to get a violet color....and so on.
The headlamp in my motorcycle is plastic, and with the 6000k HID I have in there, I have NO heat issues whatsoever.
You just need to get on the internet and READ about the pro's and con's of the conversion.
