Stock I uses 20w-40 or 15w-30, then I went to 20w-50 after the cam. I tried starting my car one day with straight 60 on a relativly cold moring... it felt like the oil was sand, then it warmed up and everything was fine.

Anywho try and find a good cold and hot weight. I'm sure you'll be fine with 10w or 15w cold and 30 or 40 hot.

well in the winter i ran 10w-30...regular crap and then i changed the oil myself and i got some castrol syntetic 5w-30 and i can tell it was faster at warming up but it almost feels the same so ima save some money by going back to the regular stuff... i remember i would put the high milealge oil when i had like 140k and it worked but now i have a fresh engine

IMO, 30 weight is fine. If you want to know anything about oil, just check Bobistheoilguy. Here is a thread to check out.

If you really want your car to last, buy the synthetic oil. Our cars will be fine running 10W-30 year-round if you live in the states and have a stock motor. I dunno what to tell you to do if you start messing with cams and crap. Mobil1>All in my opinion.
I have heard really bad things about 10W-40, I would stay away from that, stick with the 30.

actually 10W-40 is all year oil.
10W means it the thickness of the oil on the cold days.
40 means it will be thicker when the engine gets hotter.
so if you are running 10W30 your oil will be like water when it gets hot.
Stick with 10W40 all year around or 5w40 all year around.

Another thing, don't mess with synthetic oils on old engines. That is how i blew rings in my old engine. It had 219K miles on it, and i switched to castrol syntec oil, and booom, next morning it was blowing smoke.

Stick with regular oil. that is what our engines were designed to use.

ive used synthetic on high mileage engines before, if the engine is in good condition, not leaking oil or burning it and has good compression, you should be fine to use it. When i used it it def stayed cleaner for longer
