Hi from Down Under,

Daughters 89 accord (EFI) has had starting probs recently. hard to start some times, won't start other times... starts normally sometimes!!!. Did some searches here... and AHA main relay could be cuplrit but no... also checked water temp sender and it checks out fine too. What I have found is that both the AT idle control solenoid and the AC Idle boost solenoid aren't getting any volts when they should. Evidenced by idle going down when putting into drive or reverse, and when turning on A/C (the AC Idle adjust has no effect!!). Have checked both solenoids and they work fine... just no volts to drive them.

I am now suspecting the Control unit (ECU) may have probs but can't find an actual ECU connector pin out in order to check. Will try tracing out solenoid control lines tommorrow.

One question... does anyone know if the wires/harness from these solenoids goes direct to the ECU, or are there additional connectors in line, and if so where are they located...

Cheers

John

Fixed!!!! After removing the main relay and resoldering all joints... no effect... replaced fuel filter... no effect.. swapped out ECU... still the same... tried to buzz out the wiring from solenoids to ECU... gave up. Rechecked the temp sender (TW) and found one wire was broken inside the insulation right where it enters the back of the green connector. Checked ECU and flashing code 6 (TCW fault). Fixed the connector and reset the ECU and bingo... all back to normal.

So the TW fault was causing intermittant hard/impossible starting, no "AT in gear" idle up, and no "Aircon On" boost idle!!!

Cheers
