just wanted to add an update,I bought a gallon of the cross fire 2k primer yesterday,so it's finally time to start primering parts. we changed the color design of the car,I'm going to keep it a secret for a little while,it's still going to be panda, but the main color is coming from a '79 nissan. thats all I'll say for now. next week i'm going to try to get the piece that fits under the taillights primered, also the fenders and the headlight buckets, and hood, it's going to look like a dirt track car for a little while with no hood, fenders, etc. LOL

lol.....yeah man, hurry up!

I am still back and forth over what I'm going to do....I've been looking at this site that sells paint....they have a Gunmetal Gray Metallic that looks pretty good, but I also finally found a site that carries my stock color, so I'm not sure.

I can't wait to see yours....what's your total time frame now?

not sure of the time frame,I just got the primer,so thats a step, keep finding stuff to fix,and now i still have to finish that corner of the hood where that idiot backed into me. once I get these parts primered then I'm getting ready to primer the whole car, thats a major step towards paint.

well we got the hood and the headlight doors off today, drove it home with no hood or headlight doors, spent most of the night with a pressure washer and degreaser trying to get twenty years of crap off the underside of the hood. tomorrow I'l wet sand it,and next week i'll prime it and the doors, also the strip for under the lights.my wife and I had fun tonight,we took my old junker hood I have, the one from the car that was hit in the front,we painted graffiti all over it and I painted my real hood is being painted right now with spray paint. that one will be on the car for a week, this is the hood I set up my measurments for the hood scoop off of,so it just has a big cut out on it. :slap: :) :help:

ok as soon as I can get some pics I will,we primered the hood tonight, both sides of it,the headlight doors, and the piece that fits under the lights. I just got it put back together a few minutes ago. I saved all the underhood decals except I couldn't save the one for the coolant. anyone know where to get one? I can't find the screws for the grill so i'll have to put that back on tomorrow. what I can't figure out,I've painted cars before, yet I get a run in the rear trim piece,my wife has never used a spray gun in her life, yet she does a perfect job on what she has painted. LOL!!! stiil need to realign the hood tomorrow,so thats another project. It started to rain so I gave up for tonight. hey anybody else got a spare 3geez decal? I might put one under the hood.

What kind of paint you going to use Tim? Base coat, clear coat, or single stage. Acrylic or urethane? Still going with the panda paint scheme still?

base/clear,urethane. I'm still going with the panda scheme,I'm just keeping the main color under wraps right now, I'm using the cross fire line from Nappa, I get a good deal there if I order through work. I'm using a 2k high build primer from them for a base right now. a lot of people said it didn't spray well but it put a really nice coat down for me. http://www.route66supply.com/store/media/satalogo.jpg

Sounds like progress. :)

I am not looking forward to the amount of bodywork my car is going to require. Every time I peek under something, I find something else that needs to be fixed....

Not even sure I want to paint it now, to be honest. I found a new, blatantly deliberate 3" scratch on the front edge of my hood a few days ago. Whoever did it, did it hard enough to get to bare metal. If someone is going to mutilate my car, a new paint job will be like a big ole bullseye....

hey don't feel bad man....sounds like your wife has the whole body-work thing going on....and remember that people who are new to a thing tend to take a bit more care with it than those who are old hands....

yea I had my hood perfect before primer, and before I even got the primer on,someone backed into the corner of the hood and bent it,I had an awful time getting that back into shape because of where it was. also I just primered it yesterday and one of these lives in the tree above my car(actually several of them) this morning my fresh primer looked like a bomb

I will try to take some tomorow with my crapy digital,I will take some better film pics later, what do you mean by shaved roof? I got rid of the antenna and the rear window squirter,I didn't want to get rid of the rain gutters because it's part of the character of these old hondas. there are just some things you leave the way they are.

ok here are some digitals, I took the same pics with film so i'll swap these images out later, but for the meantime here are these. remember this car went through several hailstorms,so you get an idea what we went through straightening metal. the hood is done for now,and the headlight buckets, also the rear trim piece, that piece required more metal work, then anything else on the car. it was completly rotted out on one side,so basically one side had to be refabricated from scratch. just couldn't find one that wasn't destroyed.

ok a couple more, got that trim piece back in finally, what a bitch, have to empty out the hatch, remove the bazokka tube, remove the speakers for the game, the center acess door, the cover mats over the hatch floor, the hatch cover behind the seats, the hatch floor itself, just to be able to remove the screws holding in the cover in back. AUGGGGH! hope I don't need to get to the spare tire. but anyway...
drivers side-this is the one that was hit,the trim was hit and that corner by the light was buckled in,also the hatch floor under it was pushed up,I think the car was knocked from under the corner.

right side, this was the side that was completly rotted out,had to be built back up from scratch

if my camera wasn't so crappy, you could see thats really a vintage plate,it has the original 86-87 stickers that would be on it if you bought it new. georgia tags all had 1983 on them until 1989,they just had a different sticker for each year.
