Please tell me about your impressions & opinions regarding engine treatment fluids like MicroX3 (Motor Up) and injector/carb cleaners!

Do these things actually work or are they just jokes? If they aren't, can they do damage instead of good?

the only thing i can personally attest to is the Engine restorer. It worked on my car, helped in less burning of oil and also brought back the compression. Which is evident when i did my compression test which resulted in 154psi on all cylinders on avg.

Other additives are just out there cause i have never used anything else and neither do i recommend anything else.

Who makes that engine restorer and what do they say it does? We have been thinking about trying seafoam and Marvel mystery oil on a couple of the boss's cars. As far as fuel injector cleaners, we've had excellent luck with the Chevron with Techron and Seafoam.

Pros think the highest of Techron and Seafoam. I've used Techron a lot, and have never had a problem with injectors clogging. You should probably use it at least every 5 or 10,000 miles.....I wouldn't count on the gas companies here, particularly if you use generic brands. As you probably know, most of the "miracle" additives are just worthless. Slick50 signed a consent agreement with the Federal Trade Commission, as did a bunch of other makers. Then there's Zmax. Promoted a lot via infomercial, it nonetheless was one of the few (if not the only) additive maker that the FDC agreed with. I've never used it, but I did read the whole web site, the engineering reports, etc. It would seem that it does have an effect, but judge for yourself:

The old-timers swear by Marvel Mystery Oil, which has been around for a long time. Actually, Zmax has been around for a long time, too. It's aviation formulation has been approved by the FAA, which has extended the service intervals of helicopters running Zmax as an additive. That sounded pretty convincing to me.

I totally forget where and what was said but the the only thing that comes to mind that the site might have said was that it worked too good and ended up striping the oil away etc. and you end up with engine damage. This was a long time ago when zmax first started their commertials.

Anyways after reading whatever was on that site I decided to stick with regular oil.

seafoam and B12 work great as fuel injector cleaners.
as far as oil additives, i tired all of them on my old accord and i can say non of them worked for me.

I'm not a big fan of oil treatments. I use seafoam to clean engines myself. I can say don't f*ck with Slick 50. Check out the link if your curious.

im still not sure on this, but how do you guys use seafom on your engines?? ive heard different ways of doing it but not sure wich one works best:dunno:

I just pour it in where you put oil in. I beleive it is one ounce to one quart ratio, or close to it.

I use carb cleaners to clean off oil deposits. I get the cheap 89 cent ones from walmart and its effective in dissolving grease and taking off dirt. I use it to clean up the oil soaked dirt under my trans and also when i rebuilt my axles, i used it to clean off old bearing greese. It works. but as far as its intended use, not sure.

i agree with smufguy. one day i went to the dollar store and they were selling like gas treatment. i read the back and it said that it would clean out my fuel system and carb. it was 12oz for a buck....compared to other ones that you can get from kragen this one was a deal. i put it in and yeah it did do something cuz the exhuast would smell funny.

You mean the Aerosol cans of carb cleaner?
Those you just spray into clogged outlets, and yes, they work. I used to use them on my old Tercel when it would get clogged. It's not an additive, though. I also use it in my engine bay to clean up oil when my valve cover gasket inevitably leaks.

i've put a couple different treatments in my engine. when i first got it, i decided to figure out how much gas i was using and figured i was getting about 16 mpg. which sounded kinda low for a honda. so i put some injector cleaner through and it's been up at 24 mpg ever since. i've run maybe a bottle or two more, but no results like that. and in my engine now, i have some of that lucas oil treatment. but i'm thinking i might drain it soon because i keep smelling burned oil more than i used to.

Hi again,

Finally found an article about Motor Up, Micro X2 and other oil additives in a famous Finnish motor magazine. Tests showed that additives DOESN'T do anything what they promised. No more horsepower and motor doesn't run cleaner. They also tried the stuff in an opel that had loud noise, but it didn't reduce noise at all.

They also tried some magnets that you should put around the gas pipes, promising same improvements as above. Results were same.

Everything just seems to be really good marketing. Do not believe the commercials!

Injection cleaners were not tested, I cannot comment.

im not sure and kinda skeptical about alot of them, but chevron techron is the shit!
