Ok, a buddy has an 89 LX FI accord and he says when he drives it somewhere he cannot get it to start back up if it is warmed up. He says if he waits a while and tries then it will start.

Any ideas, or any questions I should ask him?

Thanks,
Gene

ask him to check his starter. I have the problem. Its a bad starter on my car that makes me unable to start. also, ask him to check the Main relay under the dash and then if its not been changed/repaird, he can just pull it out and resolder all the joints on the bottom.

In an event like this should ever happen, ask him to take a hammer and tap on the starter a couple of times and try turning it over. You should be able to hear the fuel pump turn on and clicking sound when the key is turned to Ignition III.

i have the exact same problem on my 89 lxi hatch...its at the shop right now as we speak..its been there for 3 days now. so far theive replaced the starter..and it got worst...then they put in a new distributor to see if that would change anything...but didnt. theive checked all the wires, plugs, timing, compression, rotor, battery, coil..and everything checked out fine. i hope they fix this:(....i love my 3g

Okay, everyone needs to be more specific. Are your respective vehicles not turning over, or cranking-but-not-starting? Very different problems. If they are cranking, then in no way will the starter fix anything. Main relays ARE very commonly the cause here, so check that. But the coolant temperature sensor (for the ECU, not the guage) can also cause this symptom on these cars.

well before i took it to the shop to get it checked...every time i would go somewhere and get back in the car it would not start...all you could here is click click click untill it finally starts...so they told me it might be a bad starter so they replaced it. but after the new starter was in there...it wanted to start now..but just hesitaded to start as if it was choaking. i just called the shop right now and told them to replace the coolant temperature sensor to see what that does
