the silver trim on my hood is coming off around the edges.. i tried to jam it back on and it just got worse :uh:

it kinda looked like the edge under the hood was broken or something.. is that part of the grille or is it a separate piece? I'm gonna investigate more later but it's hella hot today so im not going out there now :burn: the grille trim is cracked a lil too so i'd like to replace them both eventually.

my car looks ok from a distance but it's got lots of little things that need fixing.. added up they kinda piss me off

frantik
06-22-2006, 10:32 AM
the silver trim that's right below the honda emblem on the hood.. it's coming off

how do i fix it?

frantik

it's coming off of the car.. it will look like shit no matter what color it is

i'm not talking about the plastic trim that matches the eyelids and side corners, i'm talking about the metal chrome strip right below the honda emblem.

Take it off and glue it back on after you have cleaned up the excess glue or tape that was under it. If I am thinking correctly.

just go get one from a jy. IT IS hard to find any that arent broken or anything. but you CAN find them. plus depending on your jy they're only like 10 bucks. the most ive paid for one (ive gone through 2) is 21 bucks. so just look for them.

your talking about part # 3?
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/catimgs/13se00_g01.gif

if so you can only get the piece from Honda and it was only used on 88-89 Accords so it's a $54 part! http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=Accord&catcgry2=1989&catcgry3=4DR+SEI&catcgry4=KL5MT&catcgry5=FRONT+GRILLE
a new grille would be $20 ish @ rockauto http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1167027,parttype,1384,partGroup,12,EPImo delID,2297,EPIengineID,2393

if you dont want to worry about it again switch to a 1986-87 Grill.

how hard is it to change to a 86 87 front grill

frantik
06-26-2006, 02:32 PM
and can you use the crome bit from the 86-87 grille with the 88-89 grille? i prefer the 88/89 smoked lined style..but that extra crome trim might look kinda tight

mkymonkey
06-26-2006, 02:58 PM
no. just use whichever model you want and paint it like i did :D

frantik
06-26-2006, 03:03 PM
dammit.. i dont want to paint it though :slap: hehe.. the trim looks good painted with some colors but i don't think mine is one of them.

neither the trim nor the grille need urgent replacement.. someday i'll go to the junkyard and pull the crome strip hopefully

I just took my grill off, I don't like the way the car's look with them on.

frantik

then it looks like it got it's front teeth knocked out

frantik

so i actually went out there today and looked at it haha. i realized why i was making it worse; i was trying to push it upward onto the hood metal when i needed to push it forward onto the grille plastic, so it was losing grip as it got slightly bent open.

i just took some pliers and bent the end of it so it was a tight sqeeze shoving it back on and it held. It's good for now.. if i ever decide to redo the entire body i'll need a whole new grille but as long at it doesn't look like it's about to fall off it's fine by me. :D

id still like to know about the 86-87 grill

frantik

i'm guessing it's bolt on.. toolchick swapped her 87 to an 88-89 front end and didnt mention anything about modding. pm her or ask in the jdm corners thread

i do like the extra crome on the 86/7.. wonder why they switched to less crome in 88. the older style kinda reminds me of 4gee's front end, though the H isn't in the grille like on a 4g
