View Full Version : You Guys Ready For Questions Galore?
Alright...well, here's my plan. I'm planning on buying some 1995 GSR fat fives and attaching them to some Tokico HP's sprung by H&R Sports. Here are some questions that I had.
1.) How is the self-install? I know I'll need a spring compressor.
2.) Will an alignment be necessary after this install? (I just had one along w/ all 4 tie-rod ends and a frong axel along w/ a balance)
3.) Are the H&R's really recommended over the Eibach's? (Even the Sportlines?; I know that the Eibachs tend to lose the spring rate after a while, but haven't heard of the H&R's doing that...which is why I chose them)
4.) Does anyone have pictures of a 1.5" drop (preferably with the H&Rs. I just want to make sure this isn't too low nor straying away from stock-ish look.)

1) Self install actually isn't too difficult and is pretty intuitive once you take a look at things. Only about 20 nuts and bolt to undo realistically, though if they haven't ever come apart you might soak them in PB Blaster for a while before you begin.
2) Yeah, you should get an alignment after you do the install or else you risk weird tire wear trends.
3) I would recommend h&r springs over eibach just because the rear spring rates on the H&Rs are stiffer than the eibach meaning that the car will ultimately turn better (it will push/understeer less). Plus they are tried and true.
4) Here's the pic of my old sedan lowered on h&r's and tokico blues. Not too low at all, and from a look perspective could be lower, though realistically that's as low as I would go to avoid the camber issues that come with >1.5inch drops. I scraped the bottoms of the mudflaps every now and then on speedbumps, and maybe a bit of exhaust on BIG speedbumps (in retrospect my car wasn't as low at ALL--the coilovered 240 is a MUCH bigger pain in the ass lol).

The only other advice I would give is do it right the first time. Get the parts you want the first time around--it's much cheaper and easier in the end.

i would definately recommend the H&R's over the eibachs. Tokico struts cant truley handle anything over a spring rate of 250, and seeing as how even H&R's are 262 in the front, i wouldnt wanna go much higher. With struts that dont have enough dampering your going to get some bounce, whether you can feel it or not.

Definately go with H&R's I had some on my old se-i and they were wicked. But I wanted to go lower. I have pics somewhere so I'll try and post em up.
Also, self install can be pretty easy, but I had a problem with the bolt holding the front fork into the lower control arm, it would not come out any way I tried, and I know other people have had this problem too. Otherwise its easy as pie.
ANd definately get an alignment. Even after only 2 months I noticed significant tire wear problems because I didn';t get an alignment.
