I was sitting in my 'Cord letting it warm up when, for no reason, I turned the wheel a little bit. My RPM's dropped a little and I remembered someone saying to take off the power steering belt for more power. So I kept cranking the wheel. All in all the RPMS dropped about 250-350!! That power steering motor must suck down a TON of power!

Well now I have a great way to be a little bit easier on my transmission... crank wheel and put 'er in gear!:smokin:

250 rpms? Uhm, thats not anything worth moistening your panties over. If it was such a power sucker then why would they make cars with power steering? And I would rather lose a meer 250 rpms (who notices a loss of 250 rpms anyway) then have to use my ass muscles to turn the damn wheel into a parking space.

Nate.

Well I'm not complaining. My brother cracked the power steering fluid case on his '85 Prelude and it is an absolute pain to try to wrench around. I was just saying that that seems like a lot of power.

I suppose I would really care only if I had to squeeze every bit of performance I could out of the Accord.

Actually Nate, some people who bought the reallllllllly base level DXes had the option to have no P/S so Honda had a different geared steering box which handles about the same with a bit more effort.

Good, so I can just go to a junk yard and find one of those DX's with the manual steering box.

I had manual steering with my 86 civic Si and I was fine with it. So I just drained my p/s and removed the motor and belt, but If I can find an Accord in the junkyard with manual steering, I'll just try to swap that into my Accord.

Its only sucking power when you're turning the steering wheel. Notice that the rpms only drop when you turn the wheel and then rise back when you stop.
