thats the catback system im lookin at, i like it better than the one for the accord, no need for a 4inch tip, im no ricer

monza already makes one like that for the accord. and i dont think one for the prelude would fit. i mean different bends and shit. though the pic looks the same you never know. i guess you woul have to wait till someone with an accord and a prelude answer you and let you know but.....i say no

Just get the one for the 86-89 accord that is already made, i have it on my car and it works fine. The only thing is is that you will have to change the muffler after you have like 120whp because it starts to be restrictive. They also make a header that is OK figuring that its the only one still made. Header- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-89-Honda-ACCORD-85-87-PRELUDE-Exhaust-Header_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33631QQihZ013QQi temZ230011945385QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW . S&S still makes right?

The tip really doesn't look bad, but like i said once you do more mods you will have to replace it anyway, but the 2 1/2" piping is great and its worth the $200.

S&S still makes right?
I think S&S discontinued their parts, I have their header and im pretty sure they dont make it anymore.

07-26-2006, 03:56 PM
hmm...i didnt know that 5g exhaust worked

did anyone else know this? does this mean that we can use aftermarket systems for those years of lude's on our cars? though they're like 500 bucks....it would be nice to know

hmm, well, i can get a pic of a full cat-tip exhaust for our cars and measurements since i have one sitting in our car. and if someone could do the same for the 5g prelude, then we'll be in business in figuring this out.

lude and some accord exhausts from 3rd to 5th are fairly close, just around the rear suspension you might find some problems, also with hanger locations.

You'r looking for a few things... the main thing is the bend by the gas tank and the other by the suspension... the next would be the lenght of the straighter portions of the pipe.

well they have the same blocks so im gessing that it would fit and if it does the the intake would to so you could switch you single card intake with a doulble card intake

i work at a junk yard and i did an interchang and all the 2.0 accord blocks are the same and so is the prelude 2.0 block. but the accord blocks are the same from 86-89 and i think the prelude block is the same year to.

ok 86-89 accord fuel injected and carb and 86-87 fuel injected engins are the same.

The A18 head will have to be swapped if you want prelude dual carbs on the A20 but this thread is about exhaust from a 5th gen prelude fitting the accord not a 2nd or 3rd gen prelude exhaust fitting the accord.

has anyone else actually confirmed that the 5g prelude exhaust will fit and what modifications are needed?

I have just bought a 5th gen prelude exhaust on ebay and it just got to my house today and so far it looks like it will work. I layed it out under my car and the S bend looks the same so I hope it works the only thing that I'm not sure of is if the pipe coming off the muffler has enough bend in it to go under the rear suspension. I will let you guys no more when I get it on my car.

Today I started to put on my exhaust so far so good. I got it all up under the car and it fits good. I had to cut off some of the hangers and bend the ones on the muffler to make them fit. I also had to cut just a bit off of the heat sheilds where there was some slight rubbing. So all I have left to do is have a piece put on the header pipe to hook the high flow cat to. I will post some pics some time soon.

As the 5th gen Prelude exhaust is available with wide variety of choice, if you could upload the picture especially where you needed to modify it, it would make it great 'How to' thread!

:uh: I ran into a problem today I would of been done with the exhaust but I went to put on the high flow cat that came with my exhaust and it is to long, when I put it on it comes way up to the flex pipe. So now I need to take the exhaust pipe behind the high flow cat and cut off the flange where the cat bolts on and cut 3 or 4 inches out then have the flange welded back on. Then I should be done with it.

they are not that good but here is some pics of the exhaust I put on my car as you can see the s bend was not right so it hangs a bit low out of the heat shield

I didnt realize the 96 exhaust would work, what size is it diameter oem?
hey that prelude exhaust up there is more than just a "bit" off, that just would not do on my car, comes up too short too I bet it is loud inside the car. Nice materials though , I would take it and have that flange turned and rewelded, take some out so it tucks better from the down turn.. then extend the muffler tip just barely our from beyond the bumper cover so exhaust sound waves and fumes do not collect behind the bumper.

no its not that loud but i have got the silencer in so... the fumes won't collect behind the bumper because there is a lip on the bottom of the bumper and that is coming in over the exhaust tip so the fumes will go out

I'm with roodoo on this, it doesn't look like it fits that great. It can be modded to fit of course put my idea of getting SS tubing to begin with is that it lasts along time. If you have to start cutting and welding it seems like an invitation to rust.

Can anyone confirm (maybe with pictures) that the 90-97 Accord exhaust will work on the 3g? I'm getting ready to drop some money on exhaust and would like to hopefully bolt on a stainless cat back system.

beran24, thanks for the pictures! Thats pretty good I thought. Of course it may not be perfect fit but with some adjustment, it will be fine. The cutting and welding would be perfect but if that is difficult, there are some short joint piece which you can tighten it with clamp. Even with cutting and welding, if there is rough shape already, it is not too bad compare to making up from scratch. With stainless steel, the possibility of rust is much much less that with mild steel by the way.. Great, thanks!

prob not straight up
modding would prob be needed.
if u need an exhaust done, go to an exhaust shop
its cheaper than you think.
if you can weld, buy the pipe and mandral bends and do it u self
