Has anybody here used 205/55/15 tire size? Or maybe a 225/50/15?

According to all the calculators the height is 23.7" (which is .5" taller than stock). I have read one thread where Busted Blue tried using either 205/60/15 or 205/55/15 with some GSR fat fives, and it was pretty close to the control arm, but it fit. I am wondering if anybody else has experience with this size…

I know of a member running 225/35/17 right now, with no rubbing at all. I don’t want to run 17’s, but I would really like to run 225/50/15, which ends up being the same height as a 205/55/15 tire. As for fitment, I will be using a 15x7 wheel with +45 offset...

Just looking for feedback since search didn't return much...

23.4" @ 195/55-15
I was happy with that. Had it on both accord and corolla

Now I'm one larger

24.2" @ 195/60-15
Doesn't feel as good.

Rubs on my corolla.

23.4 is only .2 taller, which is probably a negligable difference, but 23.7 is half an inch, which is a bit more. i'll probably just try it and make sure the company has a good return policy rofl.

well im going with a 195/60/15....since the 55 series cost 2 times more and you got 40k on thread life...the 60 series comes with 60k....i still have not mounted them since the dx has them. maybe when i get a decent job i will go with the 205/55/15

i believe vector is using some 225/50/15 and he says they fit but there's not much room

well quick look the 205/55 is listed at 8.4" and the 225/50 is listed at 9.2" so not really looking at the same width if your worried about rub ? i assume.

My cars not lowered but 205-50-15 rub in the rear on compression on the fender lip.

I ad also look at what tire those sizes come in esp. since your interested in traction. I'd recommned falkens 615's for that.

In my search for wheels/tires I came across the motegi catalogue (it's actually the 05 pamphlet) today and I really like the Trak lite and trak lite 2.0. I can get the trak lite in 15x6.5 and both in 15x7, they weigh 10 lbs each and I'm (dreaming of) running 205/50ZR15 michelin pilot sport cup tires. (yeah i know it's several grand of wheels and tires right there, whatever). both rims have +35mm offset, and I plan on lowering my car less than 2''. you guys think this'll work? Rubbing issues?

Michelin specifies the installed tire height of the Pilot Sport Cup 205/50ZR15 at 23.2" on 6.5" rims,
the 225/50ZR15 are 23.9 on 7".

yeah i know that stock, and good fitting tire setups are 23.2, and i know that my monster truck tires will be way bigger...

as for tires im not totally sure what i will get, i might just get the cheapest crappiest set i can find at first, just to see if they fit, so I don't waste too much money on them.... i know that 225/35/17 fits without rubbing, but i imagine i would have to roll all the fender lips. and probably run spacers. :D

205/55/15 works with no rubbing, I was using the ones from my integra on my prelude for a while. Looks like this. Used my phone for the pics so they're not the greatest.

yeah that is the perfect size...the 205-55-15 it should not rub...but if you lower it....it could be a different story...im going with a 1.5inch....nice mechies but i like my Fat fives...il put any of them even blades.

225/50/15 would be way too much, especially if you're lowered.

On my (1.6" lowered) 5th gen I went from 195/60/15 to 205/50/15's -- the wheels had suspension clearance problems, and the wheel weights were hitting against the caliper. I had to go through the pain of installing wheel spacers to keep the wheels.

bobafett

tire size has nothing to do with wheel to caliper clearances. wheel diameter and offset do.

i am aware i will probably need spacers to keep the tires off of the control arms, and i am fine with doing that. the wheels i have my eye on have a pretty high offset anyway, so that will work out to run 5-10mm spacers...

Remember that I have a 2nd gen hatch, and my clearance issues will arise at the lower spring perch on the strut. Since the 205/50R15 is actually smaller in height than the stock 185/75R13's, it SHOULD fit, however I don't know the width difference or wheel offset issues yet, I believe the Motegi's are a +35mm offset (I already lost the pamphlet)

i dont recommend running 225s on a 7inch rim. they are good to run upto 205s and 215s are pushing it a little. for 225s, i suggest you run a 7.5' or even a 8' if you could. IMO 225 on 7" is nutz. and with 45mm offset, you should have minimal problems with rubbing. there are few 15" rims with 48mm offset.

tirerack reccomends a 7" rim for this size. and claims that 6-8 will work. i agree it might be a bit goofy on a 7" rim. but its all in the name of traction!

lol ur linky wont work  I suggested a 7.5 or a 8 is not for fitment issues, but mainly so that ur sidewall could be straight rather than buldging out. The STI runs on a 7.5" rim and they come with 225s as you know. 205s on my car with a 7" rim, the sidewall look damn straight and there is no overhang or overlap on quick turns

yes dougler is right, i was using kumho v700 victoracer tires for autox, they are 225/50/15's they fit and amazingly even with my 3" drop they do not rub, i had to roll the rear fenders alittle more but yea they fit.

i have 1 or 2 pics around, i will see what i can do about getting them up.

they are not as cool as the 235/45z/r13's i got to run a couple weeks ago.

there are 90 somthing images and i'm in there a few times, 57 of 90 is the best shot of my car, the black 2door 3g is a buddy of mine that i swapped the engine in so he could race it that week lol.

here are the kumho 13's skip to 14 of 35, its tobad they only got one shot of my car, if i could afford them i would get a set of my own, they took 2 runs just to get used to :(

only thing you gota make sure is the offset, its probably stamped somewhere on those rims i used so i will see if i can find it, i'm sure not all rims/tire combos will be able to fit like mine did if the offset is incorrect, i got lucky.

i do know that the rims are only 6.5" which i always thought would be to narrow for 225's but after driving on these a couple times, it would appear not lol.

So yeah, I searched and decided to bump the oldest thread I could find. Has anyone bought or used the Motegi Trak Lite rims? I plan on running the 15's. See my post from 2006.
