So i *finally* ordered the last component to complete my drop setup.. Tokico rears should be here in a week or two

I'm going to be using one of the last known pairs of unused Koni reds up front, matched with Tokico blues in the back, and lowered on Eibach Sportline springs. I hope to get everything installed by mid september, though my normal mechanic doesn't install customer parts so i need to figure out something else.

Once I do get the new shocks and springs installed, my next priority will be installing the complete set of Justin's bars which have already been ordered as well. I'll probably do the upper tower bars almost as soon as I get them, though the lower ones look like they might require a garage to install properly so they might have to wait a tiny bit.

Eventually i'd like to add ST sway bars, but they will probably have to wait a few months. I'll also have to see how the car performs with the mods i've already got in the works haha.

Drop price breakdown

Koni Red fronts (new - from 3geez member) - $300
Tokico Blue rears (new - from cardomain.com ) - $115
Eibach Sportlines (new - from ebay) - $75
---------
Total: $490 - not too bad for all new parts including a pair of konis :D

and sportlines

i'll update this thread with developments as they occur :)

lol.. at the time (http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44022&highlight=koni) everybody was complaining to the seller the price was too high (course im sure that always happens). actually looking at that thread i see it was almost exactly a year ago when i got them

yeah looks good....your set up is going to be a bit better....my uncle has a compressor so its going to be easy to take out the front sturts and the rear....i have SE-i breaks also...lol but my car has 138k... im also thinking about the say bar but im not sure if its worth it

frantik
08-17-2006, 05:09 PM
yeah sway bars are epensive.. i'm not sure if it's worth it either.., i have to see how it drives after I get all the stuff i've already bought installed :D

I'd like to get rear discs but finding them locally ready to be installed isn't so easy, and shipping would be a killer if there was a set someplace else

I'm going to be using the last known pair of unused Koni reds up front,

Mine are still unused :P .... Should be goin on soon though,

Nice setup though, should look and handle much better, good luck.

Sway bars are def. worth it. Just pick up a vigor rear bar (which is bigger than the ST bar, I'm pretty sure), and you'll be doing great. Car should be more neutral and, subsequently, turn better.

+1. I ended up throwing a stock LXi bar on my LX, and wow. Major major difference. I will eventually be going a full swaybar setup, however.

springs and struts are not hard they take about 15-20 mins a corner

that depends on several things... rusted/siezed bolts, ball joints popping loose, de-compressing and re-compressing the spring/strut assembly.

It took me and a bud 2 hours to do the front on mine, but it had civic struts in it that were too long and we ended up having to remove the upper control arm and stuff to get it out, plus we werent out to hurry, we had all night to get it done. The next morning we started on the rear... what a nightmare, that lower strut fork bushing was ripped, on both sides.... ended up having to sawzall it out, a little bit at a time... so overall it took 2 hours to do the front, and 3.5 days to do the rear... it sucked.

well i do know what u mean the first time i did it it took use about 2 ours due to a rusted bolt, but when i went and did the front tokicos i had them in and out 15 min each side but i had a siezed bolt in the rear and i still havent gotton around to finshing the job

well i'm gonna get them eventually.. i just mean i don't know if their price reflects their value. but sometimes when it comes to your 3gee price is just a number :D (despite what your wallet might say sometimes :uh:)

Yep, those Konis were the last pair I got from a store in France. Sold them because after taking the look at the rust on my old 3G, it just wasn't worth it. Good thing, because it got rear ended and totaled this past spring. Let us know how you like the setup when you get it done, and take some pics.

Check this thread: http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53680

I paid $210 for the full set of bars. if you buy them separately, the upper strut bars are 80 each and the lower bars are 110 for the set.

he only made 10 full sets and last i checked at least 1/2 were gone so if you're interested act quickly :)

just a heads up, both cheese and i had a few problems installing the front bar. we had to lift our cars up in the air to get the bolts to move over a bit to bolt it on we slid it on in the air then dropped the car for the bolts to go all the way though then bolted it down. its a tight fit! but thats a good thing :D

Frantik & Geddy and anyone else coming just come North on 680 to 780 go across the Benicia Bridge towards Vallejo,
exit on Columbus Parkway (you'll see a Burger king and a Shell gas station)
Here's where it gets tricky, After the light, go to the 2nd street opening thats going to be Greenmont (if you come to another traffic light go back your too far ahead) turn left and stay on Greenmont till you get to the stop sign go 3 more blocks and turn left on Dan Ct. If you get to another stop sign you went 1 block to far.
Are you confused?I know I am :D Everyone who comes to my house for the first time always misses the turn and gets lost So dont forget my number (707) 373-3949 :D

rear tower bar
http://swiftlytilting.com/images/lxi/drop/P1010016.jpg

clears the trunk lining so no cuts needed :D it was a bitch tightening the 2nd side of the bar down though, the nut was practically flush against the bar so a socket wouldn't go over it.. it worked out ok after loosening both of the bolts on the last side and then usng a rubber mallet to coax the socket onto the nut

I forgot to add: a huge thanks to Roger (pico) for suppling the garage, tools, and plenty of elbow grease :D Also big thanks to Geddy (who did a crapload of the work), cndyapple88lxi, and pico's buddy George who all helped out quite a bit.

It's hard to tell what's from the shocks and whats from the tower bar, but overall there have been HUGE improvements.. it's hard to describe the but ride feels much more solid and planted. Also it's a lot smoother.. bumps before would be jarring, now they're not nearly so bad, and there is very little oscillation afterward.

it's funny i just went to grab something from my car and my new neighbor is all "wanna sell me that car" to which i replied without even thinking "heeell no" lol.. he looked at me kinda funny and i explained i had just got it lowered today :p

so i was thinking.. and i'm pretty sure we put the bumpstops on upside down lol.. cause the installation pic had those dust covers tapering as they went up, which would mean the bump stops would have to taper as well.. but we put the tapered side down :uh: plus that would allow that little raised part on the stock to rest inside the recessed part of the bumpstop

ghettogeddy
09-30-2006, 10:14 PM
we dident put them back ewords the bumb stops were carved out till the top park that we had to pull over i still think we should have cut them

nah they're definitely on upside down lol.. and maybe they should be cut too

And I would resist the tempation to trim allot of the Koni bumpstops, absolutely don't trim them down more than half. I'd do 3/4 if it were my car.

I think I mentioned it in the beginning of the thread but:

Front Konis: Bought from 3geez member keruhas184 (http://www.3geez.com/forum/member.php?u=2202) - these shocks are no longer manufactured so it's nearly impossible to get a new set - $300 shipped

Rear Tokico: ordered from Cardomain.com - $115 shipped

Eibach sportline lowering springs - purchased from ebay - $75 shipped

Strutbars and Tiebars - bought from 3geez member Justin86 - See this thread (http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53680) - $210 shipped for all bars

ok guys....i just TRIED to fucking install the front x brace.....and goddamn that was hard! one of my stupid bolts wouldnt come out, then my fucking impact wrench got stuck on it and i couldnt get it off. i was doing all of this in the garage at work right in the fucking middle of the door way and i had a guy coming by in an hour to pick up a car....uh...problem lol. so i was running out of time and i couldnt get the damn wrench off and i hadnt even taken one bolt off! fucking shit lol. so i kinda gave up after 45 mins of trying to get the damn thing off...had a cig and got under the car. the after the break i just pulled and the damn wrench fell off. great! out of fucking time.

anyway on to more important things....the splash guard does NOT have to come off....BUT i had to cut off a lil piece to get the front braces to fit. you CAN take it off...but its too much work in my opinon...i just took a box opener and took a piece off to allow the damn brace to clear it. easy. the rest should go on great. oh and i think the driverside drive shaft MIGHT hit the brace that the bolt goes onto...why? well once you get under your car with the wheels hanging you will see. i kinda cant explain it and dont have my camera SO youre fucked lol.

all in all, this should be fun...especially with my damn car's bolts almost seized in their holes. i leteraly had to take a hammer to my wrench to get it off....even my impact wrench wouldnt budge them....i dunno why! and the damn thing is a SNAP-ON!!!! lol

well ill get pics once i get a chance...i havent driven it yet either so ill let you know what it feels like when i do :D

frantik

damn sounds like a battle! whats the clearance like underneath the car now?

mkymonkey

well im only dropped 1" so its ok...its nothing to be too afraid of. the only problem is when i come into work there is this fucking dip that totaly blows...its almost like this \___/...im not kidding either. :( thats the only part that sucks, i drove it around the building and it seems to be tighter than usual, but it might just be me :)

^ I'm worried I won't be able to take my car to the carwash anymore lol they say they won't take cars with clearance less than 5.5".

took the car for a little spin last night and i took this one freeway transfer bridge at like 70mph the whole way and normally 50 is the fastest i want to go cause the car would start to wobble and shit. Now the only thing i have to deal with is the centrifical force pulling me out of my seat.. the car itself stays hella flat. The suspension on the car is so much tighter than before it's awesome. before I felt like the car was overpowering the suspension, but now i definitely need more minor HP adding mods like CAI and exhaust

bizzidy bumping this thread.. it took a little bit longer than I was hoping but I've got some sway bars on the way

just placed an order with summit racing for an ST front swaybar $130 shipped. They're out of stock but should be back in by next month according to their site.

I also ordered a Vigor rear sway bar off of Estimated Prophet for $60 shipped :D I looked into it an apparently the Vigor rear swaybars are 16mm.. here's a pic of it measured with a digital caliper (http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showpost.php?p=496051&postcount=16). ST rear swaybars are 5/8", which is 15.8mm... which is close enough to 16mm to say they're basically the same size. You do get poly bushings with the ST though..

something interesting ive though about though.. it seems like an even better upgrade for a rear bar besides vigor or ST for 3geez would be an ST or other bar for a 4th gen, since apparently 4th gen bars fit our cars as well. Maybe if the vigor bar isn't good enough I'll try that. :dunno:

i've also got a set of prelude adjustable front control arms which i'll eventually install. I'm actually thinking of rebuilding the whole front suspension, replacing all of the bushings and ball joints and whatnot.

yeah 60 bux isn't bad but i could afford the 4g bar right now.. oh well im not trippin on it too much since Vigor is OEM Honda baby w00t lol

frantik

w00t rear vigor sway bar and front ST sway bar installed.. i can take pretty much any curve on main freeways at 90+ lol and even off ramps and whatnot are a breeze. before my car was stiff but i had some body roll especially when banking hard but now it's like i'm on rails. course now i feel the road even better lol. if i had bigger rims my teeth might rattle out of my head

now i need to install my front prelude arms to adjust my camber cause my front wheels are wearing unevenly.. but i need to get ball joints for it first. i also have a 4th gen rear lower tie bar which some day will get installed

and just a lil refresher:

Front:
Koni red shocks
Sportline springs
Justin's strut tower bar
ST sway bar

Rear:
Tokico blue shocks
Sportline springs
Justin's strut tower bar
Acura Vigor sway bar

I think I just found my own answer.

92-94 Acura Vigor

frantik

only one generation of vigors in the US ;)

when you install it you have to put the bushings which attach to the body as close to the inside curve as possible.. the vigor attachments to the body are slightly farther apart but it fits perfectly at the wheel.. we didnt remove the 3gee end links because they were the same :)
