Hi I'm haveing problems with my accord. When I start out in first gear it accelerates just fine (I usually shift at around 3000 rpm's in all the gears) I shifted to second and when the rpm's get between 2500 and 3000 rpm the car kinda studders (as if it's struggling to get power) for a bit but when I go over 3000 rpm it is fine, it even sometimes does that in third gear also. I've replaced both fuel filters, cleaned the fuel lines and the carb, but I get nothing. I was told by a mechanic to get the muffler checked (cause it could impact performance) cause of a hole in it. Any solutions or things that I could check or try before I take it to some muffler shop and have them possibly try to rip me off?

Thank you.

Corey

no, I haven't replaced the oxygen sensors. I will check them out and see if they are good.
also my gas mileage is good, so I don't think that it would be something with the fuel line, right?

yeah this happen to my car. i did all the cheap stuff first. fuel filters and you could feel a diference but it still hesatated...then my fuel pump gave up so i had to change that..then i did a carb rebuild and it still ran like crap...so i went to the junkyard and picked up a carb and it ran but rich...i was only geting like 25mpg. you can try some engine cleaner to make sure that the engine does not have carbon diposits.

if a pump is failing, you will have abrubt fuel cut off and staggering when the car is in motion. Its the symptoms that i had when my pump died. as far as testing the pump itself, follow the directions on the shop manual. it will tell you exactly what and how to test it.

yeah...you have to take your turnk apart since its under there....you can test it on like flow rate....if you have pauls manunal it will say that you need to take off your fuel line by the fuel filter and put like a mesuring cup and then turn the key and it should flow a certin rate...when i took mine out the mesh filter was riped so i think that is what caused it to fail.

well its not like bogging, its just like a sudden loss of power, and then ur gas pedal is depressed, then nothing, then all of a sudden you just take off. It does that for couple of days and then it just wont start back up. it will crank, no fuel pressure

If it's not the pump, electical problem, or a small vacuum leak, then check the primary booster: http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48568

I put in new fuel filters (both of them), new spark plugs, new air filter. There is a smell comeing from the exhaust manifold (I think that there is a hole in it cause smoke leaks out.) I'm getting the carb. tuned up on Monday, I will also get them to look at the fuel pump. Lately the car has been only doing this in 2nd gear, but on some rare times it will do it in 3rd.

Does this problem occur at the same engine RPM?

yes it does, usually between 2500-3000 rpms

Check your distributor and see if there is any brown powder present. If it seems to be happening at the same RPM disregard to which gear the car is in, its probably ignition related. Normally the pressure difference in the manifold is not the same in each gear for the same rpm due to the load changes on the engine. chech your igniton system first and then go from there.
