I just bought a 88 4dr LXI black in color, 5 speed trans, sunroof, interior color is black/beige(tan) color the dash is two tone color black/beige.
I'm going to use this for my parts car..
I'm finally going to get my 5 speed swap done and I'm gonna rebuild the engine for my 89 LXI .
I'm going to pick the car up either this saturday or during labor day weekend I'll post pics when I get it and once I'm done getting what I need off of it I'll put up a list of whats left to see if anyone wants parts from it...:D

wow thats cool...i thought you didnt want a 5 speed?...lol on craigslist they are giving a LX for free...the guy sent me pics but it does not run....jy will only give me 65 bucks for it...lol
Yeah I know but 5 speed seems to be the best way to go for fuel economy.
besides I drove a 94 jetta for 8years and it was a 5speed, I missed downshifting to slow down :D

screw fuel economy, a 5 speed is the way to get the most fun out of your 3gee :D i'm glad you've decided to ditch the auto trans... you'll love your car even more once it's done. man you've been doing hella shit to your ride lately... i think i see a AOM in your future :D :D

thats too bad the doors aren't two-tone on the black ones.. the full two-tone interior is one of the first things that attracted me to my current 3gee

You know I've only seen the car once and that was at night so I'm not to sure what condition the interior is in.
The car runs it just need brakes, the main reason for buying it was for the trans and engine,
So when I do my swap I wont have to go to the j/y for all the little pices that I will need.
I guess we will see what happens, and Geddy,Frantik,Messy I'll let you guys know first what I'm going to do.
But you guys will have to drive to Vallejo for the parts :D

I'm guessing because its going to be a parts car that it was in an accident or something, but if the body is good, and no rust, then I want it.

sweet...i might be in modesto geting my SE-i breaks...tokico shocks and lowering springs in on the 9th...i could stop by....so yeah have you done a compression test to the engine? i would not rebuild it unless it needed one.
Well I brought then donor car home today, in a few weeks I'll start my 5speed swap and everything else.
I lucked out on this 3g according to the guy I bought it from the engine was rebuilt about a year ago, it does sound stronger than mine but I'll take a compression test to see if it is what he says.

yeah the drivers seat is pretty beat, I'm still thinking about swaping interiors I like the black tan dash setup I'll get seat covers if I do a swap till I get a cleaner seat.
whats the body like?
From what I've seen on it so far "no rust" the right front fender and hood need work but everything else so far looks good

From What I can see that motor looks really clean inside! The Valves look like they are in spectacular condition! probobly pretty good news for you! I have always wondered How It gets so greasy inside the bellhousing like that. And Im not sure how you have Rust on that Input shaft/flywheel/pressure plate and clutch disc. How was the compression on that motor before you pulled it?

Cylinders 1-2-4 150psi cylinder 3 130psi , as far as the bellhousing I dont know what the guy I bought the car from was doing with the car.
As for now I'm going to take the trans to my friends transmission shop and have him go over it and replace whats needed and the engine is going in for a rebuild.
Hopefully put everything in by the beginning of the year.

Just mild rebuild nothing wild or at least thats the plan for now :D:D:D
We had that engine out in 30min and the next 45min after that was just looking at it and thinking what to do next on the engine

And does anyone know how much of the wiring harness is needed for the F.I. Swap. Do I need to remove just the harness in the engine compartment or do I also have to take the one out that leads into the car.
Took the engine apart today and brought the head and the block to the machine shop, Also dropped off the 5 speed trans at my friends shop for rebuild.

machine shop is just going to do a mild bore on the block, I decided to keep it as stock and mild as possilble since this is my commuter car.

Wow didnt see this thread. Looks like we are in the same boat, swapping and rebuilding and tearing apart donor cars lol.
Sounds like you are already ahead of me somewhat, at least on the engine rebuild, as I havent even pulled the engine from my donor car yet.
So far things are going real well both the machine shop and trans shop say that I might get everything back by the end of next week

its on my dx now like pico said....i think bitesize got a new front bumper for cheap.....they are cheap but it was not worth geting a new one for my dx....i say hit a junkyard....sometimes you can find super clean ones....i think my chassis is a lil bent or something cuz my front bumper sag more than monkeys tities

yeah i went to the junkyard almost every weekend for a while and all of the 88-89 bumpers were gashed or had cracked bumper lights or didn't have the vent things so i just gave up. I will go back soon though maybe get lucky...
Got my block and head back today from the machine shop.
Std. Rod and Main Bearings, 20 over on the pistons and rings,
Just waiting for my buddy at the Transmission shop to finish up my transmission and then I'll be ready to install everything :bandance:
