Since nobody on THREE sites would buy my processor from me, I have decided to go at it once again and make magic happen :) I'm re-re-re-redoing my audio in hopes of squashing all of the bugs.

First off is solving the problem of the center channel. As it was, it was located right under the handbrake. Not the best place for a center. At the time it was the best I could think of.

Till now :)

The factory CD player console that I hacked up for my processor has a small goodie pocket below where the player/processor/whatever goes.

That thing. Anywho, it's just big enough to act as a chamber for the tiny speaker that the center uses. So, off to work we go!

There's the speaker popped out of its original grill and put into place in that pocket thing. A 2 inch hole drill made the perfect opening. A little accuracy by volume with the hot glue gun and it sits in there nicely.

There's the speaker poking out just where it should.

A small swatch of black fabric and some more of that hot glue goodness (much neater than the speaker install) makes a very nice protective grill to keep fingers and dust out.

The end result?

A center channel where it should be. Not bad. Forgive the blur.

I'll be working a bit on my audio over the week, so I'll have more pics to post soon!

i dont get it, you can have 2 stereos in the car, but you cant have those doubled up ones like in the 4g. and 2 stereos wouldnt fit in that center thingy. and whats that round hole on the right for?

Heck if I know. I'm going to put an RCA jack there for the processor's second digital input.

but at least you took it out of your cup holder ;)

^ yeah i was thinking it might have some echo or distortion since it will be in that small space.

and yeah that little space by the ebrake is too useful to have a speaker there :D

That is just a reference pic. I don't own the player. The console was bare when I pulled it from the boneyard.

As for the center echoing, if it does I will come up with a way to handle that.

A bit more work and a couple of 'behind the scenes' pics.

http://www.enginevoodoo.com/images/dts/backside1.jpg

How hard could it be to hook up? ;)

http://www.enginevoodoo.com/images/dts/backside2.jpg

Mounted the center channel's amp on the underside of the processor. Makes sense... almost no wires needed and every connection is right there.

http://www.enginevoodoo.com/images/dts/backside3.jpg

That's where the speaker itself rests. It just fits in between the processor and plastic compartment.

Sleight of amp no more! Having the amp in the glovebox is good in theory, bad in practice. Opening and closing will bend the wires and you only need one guess as to what happens then.

That's with the seat all the way up. If I slide it back, the amp can't be seen. Out of sight, out of thieves' hands.

iPod Shuffle. 512 megs of the girlfriend's music. Some good, some... (shudders).

well i guess the deck gets the job done.

Exactly. That's all it needs to do. The processor handles all of the crossover work and trades the paltry 1volt preouts from the deck for much nicer 4 volt preouts that go to the three amplifiers. The deck's job is to handle the radio, CDs and mp3s.

hey im looking for a new deck and since you seem to swear by this...would you recomend me going for it? i have a 4ch amp for speakers and a mono amp for the sub. but i wonder if it will sound ok. i dont have a processor like you do you think i should get this alone or get an eq or something?

oh and does it have pre-outs?
