so i have my 89 accord which my family has has since almost new and im thinking(which is a bad idea) since i wanted to put sum power in my car as in turbo or such but my dad tells me it will mostlikely just unwind itself with all those kms

and since im a noob at this my car is the 4door lx and i would like to know where i could get my hands on an engine that i could just bolt right in (crosses fingers) or sumthing easy to modify

so any suggestions?

lol :welcome: to 3GEEZ.com well tell us more about your car. is it a DX,LX, LX-i or SE-i(for us only) i think other places called it Ex-i and stuff like that...im only saying that since you said it had 460km...so your car has alot of km....i think the best bet is to do a compresion test on all cylinders to find out how strong it runs.

ghettogeddy

its an 89 lx sedan

and if u have no clue what those numbers are i wouldnt mess with a turbo if i were u, but the dif there are u have a carbed car 96 horse power, the Fuel injected cars had about 130 horse power making it the better engine

Crazybird

Geddy get yo facts str8.....the carb came with 98 hp and the fuel injected with 120hp....also dont expect the fuel injected swap will get you all that....your engine has a shit load of miles....the ppl that have Dyned thire cars get like 104 on fuel injected and with mods. i bet the carbed ones get like 85 hp....my engine has 50k on it and it feels slow...but yeah fuel injection is the way to go.

its all up to you...depends how much money you want to put in the accord....some member put up to 3-4g in them the sad part is that when they try to sell it they only get 1/2 of wutever they put into it....so if you want your car for ever fix the accord....i hate to say this but if you dont want the accord dont dump money in to it

I beleive the fuel injected came with 122hp lol. And as far as power goes the fuel injection swap and a complete rebuild should definatly be the first things you do. After that you have a fair number of things you can do as far as bolt ons. For example Intake, Header, Exhaust, Cam gear, Cam shaft, B16/B18 intake manifold. You can probably do a F/I swap for like $200, maybe a little more if you go to a local pick an pull. Thats the best hp to cost ratio. Plus you cant do a CAI or a different intake manifold without it being f/i. You can also pick up a nice rebuild kit for around $300. So for around $500 you can have a rebuilt f/i motor pushing 122hp and then leave you with a number of bolt on options, thats if you can do the work yourself. By the way, hook me up with some free batteries, lol.

I want to start with by saying, if you don't know jack shit about cars, stay away from making them fast. I have seen people who try to get more power but all they did was screwed it up to the point where the car doesn't run anymore.

1. since your car is carburated. you have two choices. you can swap the engine and go with performance carburator. the other choice would be to convert to fuel injection. It is very long process. It can take you anywhere from 2 days to weeks or even a month. Since you don't know anything about cars, i would advise you to stay with carburator.
2. you can get a new/low mileage engine from ebay or you can go to parts store and order a brand new one. it is your pick. If you are going to do the engine replacement yourself, you will save a ton of money.
3. If you do the engine replacement yourself, you can use the money that you would pay for the labor and buy yourself Weber carburator, Headers, exhaust and high flow cat. This setup should be almost = to fuel injection setup.

As far as big horsepower engine goes, well, you will need about $5000+ to even start on the project. i know people on this board spent $5000+ on engine swap.

Basicly, if you want to go fast and stupid, you need different car.

welcome to 3geez. 460k's eh not bad not bad.. that aint all that high considering i have million k on my 87 accord. Crazybird.. you have been to the moon and almost back..... were on the planet earth do you live?

do a compresion test there could be a posibility of there being nothing rong with your motor if it has been well looked after. witch in that case you don't have to waste money on a new/used motor that you don't technicaly need to buy.
or you could pic up a motor from the recors and take it apart and download the pdf manual and rebuild it as a project and when your done swap it into your accord. these cars are esay cars to work on...

wana post some pics of your 89 LX

oh and my car has all new hoses as of like 3 weeks ago since i was driving a little quick hehe and one of my heater hoses let go thank god there was no dmg since my house was like 3 secs away. and we just rebuilt our altenator.

the rust along the botem of your doors... go to canadian tire buy some of the rust converter stuff and then put some zink oxide primer put it on should stop the rust for now. the gas cap i would get on the rust in there asap! pull out your plastic panals in your trunk and inspect it if you want i could have a look has a compression tester also... but juging by the pics your way out in the burbs east st paul area? i am in the core of the peg between the disrealy and main st

and hey you still got one of the stock floor mats lol nice
