Getting ready to prepare for the LX-I swap. I have the interior gutted to access the harness under the seats and access to the fuel pump. Still need to pull the dash though. Got the fenders off as well to access the harness behind them.
Any odd things to look out for??

You will save yourself a lot if time if you pull that dash out. There are alot of hard to get to wires with it there. G/L dude keep us up to date

It's on the agenda just didnt have time to get to it. I only had a couple hours time between family gatherings lol I did all that in two hours, not too shabby I'd say, and it was careful disassembly, not rip and tearing it apart. I'm taking this one apart carefully to understand how mine will come apart so I dont break anything upon disassembly. Hopefully when the time comes to pull mine apart, I will already know all the clips and fasteners and tricks to getting it apart safely. Putting it all back together will be a whole different story LOL.

Thanks guys, I have LOTS more to come for sure LOL.
And if you are serious about the dash ghettogeddy, I will weigh it and measure it and find out how much it woudl take to ship. I will look it over for you to see if it has any damage, but I think I remember it being pretty cherry.
I can't wait to get the wiring harness out and inspect it and re-loom it. That alone will make the underhood area of my car look great, that nice new-looking harness, a freshly painted engine, and all washed up under the hood. Looks like I'm keeping this car a while LOL.
what was rong with the parts car? to become a parts car???

Bad tranny, and I believe he said coolant came out of the piston.

Well no, no coolant leaks on the parts car, the engine still runs pretty good as is. It's a parts car because it is totally faded out paint, Nasty interior, busted out back window, busted up windshield, bad oil leaks, power steering seems to be out (no fluid and has bad leak) and the trans quits working after it warms up. Car could be nice with some work I guess, Well ALOT of work, but my car is so clean as is, I'd rather just use this one for the mechanical parts I need that are good, and make my clean car run with the LX-I harness and engine.
All I gotta do is disassemble two cars and put one back together again, how hard could that be???? :help: :uh:

then u can put a v8 5.0 in the parts car and make it straight drag lol

Sadly enough, I've already thought about that.......
No shittin, I had told the wife I thought it would be cool to completely strip the car, cut out the suspension, channel the body and put it on a modified two rail chassis from an older car that had RWD with a big V-8, weld in a roll cage, do a paint job on it, drop in a built up 350 SBC, and voila, Instant 2500LB drag racer!!!

Do a compression test on the used parts car motor. That allways gives me a sense of knowing what shape the motor is in before I drop a used motor in any car.

Thats what we did on the donor car I got luckily compression was 160 on all 4 cylinders

Compression dont matter to me, I'm fully rebuilding the engine before I drop it in anyway, all new bearings, rings, seals, rebuld the head, deck the block to true it, hot tank it, paint it up, bolt it all together, and slap it in the car! Hopin it runs like a new one, or better....

Can't do that, they're part of the "charm" of these cars so to speak lol. Lose the pop-ups, lose the charm!

Just a couple of the things I need to do...
Cut the roof out of the 2000 ram and weld in the new one Ive had in a box in my shed for about three years. (hail damage)
Fit and Paint that damn Harwood Ram Air hood on that same truck.
Install the Roll Pan and Tailgate Handle Relocator on that truck too.
Paint that truck
Replace the hood, front bumper, and passenger fender on my Acura. (hail damage, wife's garage rash)
Fix the parking lot rash down the sides of the Acura
Totally strip down and repaint the Acura
Tear the race engine out of my 96 Ram and sell it, and drop in a stock 360.
Fix the interior up some on that truck.
Repaint the truck.
Completely redo our master bathroom and bedroom
replace our rotting and nearly falling down privacy fence around the back yard
Add on a back porch to the house
Have a street access poured to the extra parking area we had poured some years ago
finish painting the eaves and trim on the house (house is 9 years old now and already has had a new roof from hail, and the TX sun has eaten the paint up bad on the eaves/trim)
That's some of the bigger projects I got going on right now........ :beat:

I am actually going to do this also. I have a 1986 dx with a blown ring and a 1986 lx-i with a bad tranny and loads of body damage. The only thing I am kinda worried about is if the 5 speed tranny from the dx will bolt up to the lx-i, same block so it should, but still kinda worried. Oh, and how much HP can I get out of the a20 block if I were to rebuild it for boost, like dropping compression, forged internals, stuff like that. And is it worth it?

yes its worth it and it depends on what you do to get certain hp.

I want to turbo it. I know they can take 10 psi on stock internals so I am thinking 15psi? Which would be roughly 200 whp?
