View Full Version : Do you think this would be a good trade?

I have a 12" type R and an RF 200w@2 amp in a custom 3.x cuft ported box that I would trade for a good pair of 10" subs without an amp. I have an RF 500w@2 amp I would use to power them, so what kind of subs would be worth trading for my stuff? The type R hit 143.7db and Id like the loudness to be able to stay about 140 or so with the 2 10's, im looking to "upgrade" with this trade, so no 2x10" type S or some shit

unless you are geting a Kicker solobaric L7(750RMS) or some JL audio w6 or even the new w3v3....my friend has 2 alpine type R like you in a ported box....and we hooked up my amp(1440watts) to it and my we could only turn it up to 24 and the stereo goes up to 50....the bass knob waas on low....i say just get a better amp. the Type R handle 500RMS 1500 watts....it was so loud that the back window was shaking like 1-2cm when it hit.

Yeah I have a 500w amp for it, but I want something with a little more quality. Or even 2 10" type R's for the 12" + amp + box. Id be down with that, aslong as they were the new type R's.

but how much RMS does that amp push? if its 500w peak watts it must pump out like 250RMS.....like i said even with a decent amp and box makes a big diference....i went from 2 10 inch kickers in a sealed box to a bandpass and the bandpass made it hit hard....its not good to do with big subs tho...just get a nice tuned box...

I said its a 500@2, its 1200 or something peak. Lawl dont make it sound like im an idiot with car audio. I guarantee you I know more than you. The 500 is a decent amp, and I built my box to spec myself and its a very very good box. I just prefer the sound of 10's over 12's, and with 2 of them...

I probably wont sell the 12 in the box, esp shipping it to USA. But Id say 200-250

then why are you asking what a good trade would be? and personally i'd take 1 12 over 2 10's but i don't need anything that hits fast. i don't listen to a lot of rap or trance music mostly slower stuff.

I dont need it to hit fast, I want it to sound better with rock music and such. 10's have a nicer sound than 12's, and 12's than 15's. And with the less bump of a 10" compared to a 12" to have added clarity, I would throw another one in to keep it loud if I want to turn up a song and feel it, but I want to upgrade sound quality. I spent 500 on a component set up front but I still feel the bass is lacking a bit. These MBQ's speakers dont hit anything below 80, I plan on having some mid bass 6.5's in the back for 45-80, and have the 10's cut off at 45, subsonic off.

Wow you must have missed part of this thread somewhere. 1) I want something new. 2) I have a good amp for it and 3) I want 2 10's next time.

Theres lots more to a 10" than just the diameter of the sub. Better response time (ms), lighter, less physical resistance overall, doesnt sound like shit at higher freq's like some larger subs. All adding to a better sound, I have a good sense of hearing and im quit ethe audiophile, I CAN tell the difference, and if you listen im sure you can too. I would never buy a 15" sub or larger. 12 was the largest Id go.

Also another thing you missed was I will have 6.5" midbass subs in the rear of my car, 250rms each for a set of component speakers (MB Quart) up front and the 2 10's to get the 0-45ish hz. Midbass drivers get 45-80 (atleast... maybe 120 depending on which ones I get and how they sound) my MBQ's dont get anything below 80hz, and I can cross them over around 120 and use the midbass drivers for that.

lawl more bass in a 10? the bigger the sub the heavier it is, thus the louder the low frequencies are.

Regardless of your knowledge, it does not permit you to post comments like that.

As for speakers, there's more punch in a 10 than in a 12. 8's have more punch than either. However for lower frequencies and that "boom" everyone looks for, the larger the better. Up to a point. 15's and the old 18's are just plain overkill and trunk space hogs. Tune a box right and you can get a good median between chest ripping punch and lows that carry in a single 10.

The pair of 8's I have stuffed in a tuned 4th order are only driven by 120 watts per channel, yet they give you a punch you can feel and can be heard I'd say a good 50-60 feet away (my car was a party piece last year) without rattling the car to pieces.
