as some of you know i recently put a civic radiator in my car. i used a single aftermarket fan and wired it through a controller, hayden part number 3647 i beleive. well it was working fine and then it started overheating. the fan was not running... so i rewired the whole thing and it was working.
well as of this morning it was not running agian. i have a good groun from the fan and relay... from the fan to a clean piece of metal.. same spot engine ground is going to, and from the relay to the same spot the negative battery cable goes... and it was working fine. the fust from the fan to the relay is still in tact. the relay is connected to the batter just fine with a 4ga terminal.
my only thoughts are that it could be the temp sensor from the thermo switch kit... so i want to eliminate the fan controller entirely. i was wanting to just add a toggle in the cabin so that i can turn the fan on when i want.
from my understanding the fan has to be wired to the switch and the switch then has to be wired to the battery. but i know i should use a relay... so i was wondering exactly how i should wire this up. i have this diagram but it shows for a car audio / fan setup which i thought was weird...

my real question about it is 1) is the 86 part of the relay truely necessary, as in this diagram it's going to the head unit, 2) if it is necessary where does it go?
any help would be much appreciated guys. thanks in advance.
