I am not sure about what year injectors work, but I can tell you it is a pretty simple job. Just a few bolts, lift up the rail (some injectors might come with it some might stay in the manifold. Replace and MAKE SURE NOT TO PINCH THE SEALS AROUND THE TOP AND BOTTME OF THE INJECTORS. Put everything back the way you found it. Make sure to remove the metal snap rings (around the electric connection of the injector) to take the injectors off. I would also recommend loosening the banjo bolt on the fuel filter to relieve pressure in the system.

I think when I did some seals the torque on the fuel rail seemed critical or else you will get leaks. I followed the book and on my second try no leaks. I concur thats is the body that usually seeps a little.

It's pretty staightforward. I'd replace the seals first, then look for leaks afterwards. Injectors can get a little pricy.
Remove the negative battery terminal & releive the pressure on the fuel rail before popping the injectors out. If you pull the intake off, replace that gasket too. Lube the seals up lightly with some grease before installing. Good luck...

Another good thing to replace is the fuel pressure regulator also, if it isn't working good, it can cause seal & injector failure.....

I think I have the same problem as the person that started this post. Could anyone confirm that these stains are from bad injectors? If they are, as I suspect they are, then what is the best injectors to replace them with? (By best I mean good fule milage/reliable/maybe a little sporty but not so much that they would compromise my 400 miles per tank)

go to autoparts store and buy injector seals.
it is easy to do and it is worth the money.
your injectors probably fine, you just need new seals.

Is there any way to be sure it's just the seals? or do I just have to replace them, clean off the existing stain, and see if a new one forms? And how can you be sure it's just the seals?

yeah... all 4 look like that. So do I just replace the seals and check later to see if it's still leaking? and if so, how long should I keep checking for? All help is appreciated.

For teh record it was bad injectors and not just seals, I got it checked out by my mechanic. And no, he wasn't just saying that to get me to spend more because he knew I was just asking so I could do the work myself. Plus he still gets paid for an hour's labor since both injector replacement and seal replacement take only 1 hour. So any increase in price is just for parts(huge increase). So, let this be a lesson to all of you out there. If your injectors look like mine, they need to be replaced. Not just the seals.

Ya If i had checked the board the other day I would have told you it was your injectors. I had the exact same problem, and my mechanic told me he had the same thing on his 2g lude, and it was the injectors.
As I was pulling mine out the other week when I replaced them, 2 of them basically fell apart during removal. So i took the injectors from my old 3g and new seals and in about an hour I was done, and my car runs a lot better now too.

most of the times in our cars this problem is an injector problem.
mine looked like that, and they were leaking between the plastic and metal part.
this leak is not higly dangerous, but ... you never know the day when it get bigger.
Generaly new seals are a must be, but seals are at the top in the rail, and
down in the intake, so when it looks like its leaking from the half You're going to replace the injectors, so be prepared for $$$.

ours are 240cc.
The 4g will work but check that they use a resistor box. That's the key to Honda/acura injectors.

Wow. If I had a dime for every post about leaky injectors...
You guys are lucky. Mine started leaking around 1996, when the car was a mere whipper-snapper at seven years of age. I replaced the seals, not having this forum and not knowing about the injector issue. It cost $50 to do all four and the they continued to leak. I replaced all of the injectors and they were still leak free in 2012. That makes me think that the new replacement parts may be "improved."
Regardless, I wish we could put a sticky FAQ thing stating that, if you still have original injectors, when you smell gas and see the stains, you just need to replace them. I can't tell you how many times the replies start out as "replace the seals." What a waste of money and time. Just replace the injectors and be done with it.

I had the same problem when I bought my Accord. For around 200 bucks I replaced em with 4 new injectors and all new o rings.
My O rings werent fitting right and she still leaked slightly. I took the injectors off, rubbed a bit of gas on the rings and popped em back in. Never leaked since.
Just buy 4 new injectors and rings, it'll be worth not having to ever worry about em for a while.

My Accord did the same, and I did the same lol. Just buy injectors and good injector seals.
First I tried replacing just the seals with some cheapo ones. When I replaced the injectors the cheap seals I put in previously had turned to complete goo from the gasoline exposure!
New injectors and seals though has got my 87 LXI running like a champ!

I'd be careful buying any injectors for Hondas that are obd1 and newer. They have a different clip design. Plus I'm not sure how long Honda continued using the resistor box for the injectors.

It means your 3g wants better gas. Use a top tier (http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html)gas instead.
My O rings werent fitting right and she still leaked slightly. I took the injectors off, rubbed a bit of gas on the rings and popped em back in. Never leaked since.
A best practice is to oil the seals before installing. Even so, you may still have to "seat" the seals by rotating the injectors back and forth a little after getting everything back together. Don't wiggle too much though, or you'll have an even bigger leak.

I thought that was pretty cool, too. I didn't replace mine all at once. As I said, it was pretty early in my Honda career and I didn't have this forum. The first one was purchased from A&H Motorsport (OEM). The second one was from NAPA. The third and fourth were purchased together from RC Engineering. All came with new seal and o-ring so you should not have to buy those parts separately.

I was just checking out the RC Engineering website and can't make heads or tails of it. You don't go in and buy injectors for an '89 Accord. You have to choose from "Peak and Hold" injectors or "Saturated Fuel" injectors. From there you get a bunch of pics with different codes. There doesn't seem to be any guidance about what will fit our cars.
Can someone help me make sense of this?

^^Paul, I had the same experience in 1997 - or, around that time - when I replaced my last two. I actually had to call them and explain what I wanted. Back then they tested injectors for Honda and they sold the test subjects for $42 a pop. They same with one-year warranty and they lasted on the car for at least 15 years (still good when I wrecked it). Try calling and asking. RC may not be the place to go anymore.

I bought mine from Autozone and they popped right in. I don't reccomend the JP Sorenson ones they sell though. One was defective right out of the box, no hassles in exchanging it of course.
