S-afc Question

What is the difference between S-afc 1 and the S-afc 2? Can they both be used just one is a newer model. Do they both hook up the same? Let me know if you have answers please...

SAFC2 has a wider range of correction factor (i think 50%), also has more rpm points available for adjustment.

I think they will hook up the same though. obviously the SAFC1 uses dials as an interface and the SAFC2 uses the updownleftrightandturn wheel. :) I find the safc2 a little clunky to navigate, but to be honest I havent used mine much yet. installation is pretty straightforward on either device though.

if you can score an safc1 for reaaaally cheap i would get that. otherwise safc2 is probably going to be a bit higher resolution of a tune.

Thanks that helps alot, the reason i ask is i am watching both on ebay and wondered wich i should get but if i can get safc1 for cheaper i will go that way.. also would you def. suggest safc2 if i were going turbo?

safc2 is going to be able to have finer control because you can specifiy more rpm points where you actually tune the settings.

the SACF uses linear interpolization, so basically the maps are a 'connect the dots' style or reference.

example:
rpm1 = 2000 rpm, correction factor = -10% fuel
rpm2 = 3000 rpm correction factor = -2% fuel

at 2500 you would be at -6% fuel because if you graph it all out, its just drawing a straight line between each of your selected rpm points. but maybe realistically you also need -10% fuel at 2500, but you didnt have enough rpm points to specify.... so you are too rich at this rpm, and not making the power that you should be. or the real scary one is when you are too lean.

the more points you have to choose from, the better control you have over your tune, which is the ultimate goal.

with turbo you tune is far more critical, so having those extra points of reference can be very handy...

personally i would stay with safc2, the new safc's have come out and the safc2 pricing should start to drop...

is a safc-2 but you can find them alot cheaper though.

woo an AVC-R. The safc will work fine for turbo until about 10-12psi boost then you run into trouble quick. Youll still need somthing for timing control also

you could use both but the AVC-R is a good boost controller even though its expensive and hard to use, id personally just run a manual boost controller for ease of installation and simplicity, unless youre running big boost. Not sure about new but i know they are probably well over 300 each, i got my safc for 150 used though.

i think i paid like 225 or 250 shipped for my safc2....

but i agree, MBC is the way to go!

it doesn't matter if you have S-Afc or Boost controller, you still need to find a way to control the timing. and since 3G accord doesn't have electronic timing control, you are out of luck on that one.

MSD BTM works OK but an obd1 swap or standalone would be more accurate
