vacuum control box making noise like bad hard drive.

I have an 1989 accord lx (carb)i know this sounds crazy but its the only way i can describe the noise comming from the black box.. it sounds like a harddrive for a computer with bad sectors. This is happingin only every once in a while but seems to be getting more frequent. . I just got this car like a month ago. Also ove the last few days i have niticed considerable loss in power, and when i try to hold the petal to 2000 rpm the engine loses power almost die, then comes back up to 2000, and it continues to fluxuate between 300rpm to 2000. (im thinking that something in the control box is screwing with my vacuum advance) anyone have any ideas? p.s. this is my first time posting, this board has been very useful so far

well, go to junk yard and get another box.

yeah i would say just try a new one and see where you are when the dust settles, if that doesnt work then mayby you should consider a vacum removal (if you dont have emitions were you are) oh and :welcome: to the site
