hi guys
the other day i was thinkin, do you think that the 3rd generation accord would sell today if it was "rereleased" by honda with all the new safety stuff, what i mean is do you think the body style is still as appealing today as it was in the late 80's? i personally do think it is, but i'd love to get some other input

Their is a good chance seeing how the other ugly cars people buy today.

If it was done like slightly different, but the same spirit, it would probably be pretty cool.

I would make it a bit longer and wider, a little bit of rounding on the edges, but not too much, keep the popups...sorta like an RX-7, but not quite.

If it looked exactly the same but with updated mechanical/safety fetures, I don't think it would sell. If it was like DX R mentioned (updated appearance-wise but with the same feel), then I think it would do pretty good. It would be kind of cool if once in a while, they come out with a "retro" Accords like Nike did with the Air Jordan shoes.

Why wouldn't it? Look at all the retro cars out today: VW Bug, Thunderbird, and soon, the Austin Mini. Nostalgia cars are a big seller these days. I agree with 1988starter. With all the butt-ugly, cookie-cutter cars out today, the old school styles are refreshing. I would upgrade the performance, comfort, and safety features, but leave the body design basically untouched.

As much as we may like the look of these cars, you can hardly call a remake "retro." The other cars mentioned were inspired by cars that sold during the 50's, 60's, and 70's. The pop-up headlight look is definitely out these days. Add that to the fact that the Honda Accord is still considered by most to be a competent car in most respects, yet not exciting at all.

Give it a few more years, maybe. There were a few other cars during the mid to late 80's that shared the basic styling. Of course, not too many of those were considered that exciting either.

I disagree. The Corvette still has them and continues to be in the list of top cars in popularity.

The Accords are great cars, But I don't see Honda ever looking back at old styling and making any of their cars look like the older ones, (excpet the S2000 going back way in the days of the S600/S800s) The Accord is a family car, and Honda will keep it that way, And Honda will keep the styling "up to date" to make money :)

The Honda Civic right now is basically what the Accord was from 1986-1989. Similar sizes, similar trim levels and similar buyer demographics. It's too bad we never got a hot Accord like the current Si (SiR for the Canadians) Civic though!!

Only if they give it bigger wheels and brakes!
But I wouldn't wanna screw with OBD4 or whatever it would have!

i think if they change the look of it a little, keeping square idea and flip up lights in their mind i am sure it will sell. look at new BMW7 model is square. it is ugly.
