Weber is nice and price but they are most for muskle cars...

judging by the two different sizes on the throttle plates, my guess it is a 32/36 two stage type. maybe earlier style they made for bugs is what I think.. linkage looks like vw bug too. A keeper for sure, it a racer type cuz of the air horn design its "trumpeted"
At least it looks like two different size throttle plates in that picture anyway.. where did you get it?

Hmm, I'm not so sure it's for the VW's. They were IDF's I believe and bolted on with one barrel per cylinder, just like the DCOE's go on the Hondas. I suppose you didn't HAVE to do it that way, but otherwise you've got a great big manifold down there to join the flow from both barrels, then split it back off to two barrels... Oh of course I guess unless you mean a single carb VW setup... I suppose that would work..

they made a kit for single set up in the middle for stock carb replacement, yeah that definatley is not DCOE TRUE , back in the eightys they had that one an another one barrel bad ass holley, called bug spray, I have not seen one of those in a long long time.
I was looking at the throttle linkage,it takes a cable with a curl similar but not as big as accord. I am confused some about some of the extra hoses and one of the clamps looks like a crimp style oem for something. maybe it went on a jeep.
A20A1 MAY KNOW if he makes it around to this thread, Im sure he will .I have been too busy to spend more than a few minutes online, and It looks like I missing a bunch, and people are selling all thier cars, is it the end?,,, lol

did you say diesel A20A1, no way they would use injector pump and bunch of steel lines, but funny thing I was re-reading the thread and the thought came across my mind of propane like a forklift or work engine of some sort, then you said diesel. I dont know what OD was talking about btw.
DAT, come back here dude with your findings Im wondering where is the rest of it. I still wanna say bug carb retrofit for oem but something about the way the air breather flange is mysterous.

yeap...no boost venturi makes me wondering how it works......

but then i managed to get some info on it.....its coming from Renault 1.6 and the CFR stand for Compeign..bla..bla...Renault sumthing like that...and weber supplies to renault as OEM parts....but not sure on which renault.....

roodoo2...this is my 1st time i found the rare weber at junkyard......and when i found it its not attach on any engine..just lying at the corner of shelf.....

i will try to snap more pictures on it since i already cleaning it...and i think(just think) i know how its work.....but then i still look any info on it.

Could someone list the advantages and disadvantages to converting our 3geez to Weber?

shepherd79

pros: more power, less problems.
cons: won't pass emission test.

Mine 3gee is slow, so more power would be quite nice.
How much more HP?

There is a HOW TO and plenty of info on the weber conversion if you want to spend time learning it...like I did.
Much more power to me, but yet I did a valve job, head shave, header at the same time. I feel my car would easily hit 100mph in a short time, I am still working bugs out of it yet. MY short test drive really impressed me, but I got my weber off a mazda truck , it may or may not coincedently have the proper idle jet in it. I just have not had time, it has the power but I am leary of running it out too hard yet, and the transmission cable is needing some fine tuning, as well as timing.
dat/// its all good, I was just wondering where the carb came from, it looked so wierd. If it came off renault, I still may be on to something with it being a workhorse engine carb, and possibly propane as well. Definately a cool conversation piece so far ehhhh...

one thing is for sure is it makes the cars a lot easier to work with once it is converted, and the engine compartment is a lot simpler. I have had problems with getting the exhaust situated like I want it , I dont want to drive it much sounding like it does nowll:kekeke:

I'm not sure if he posted this yet, but shepherd found an informative article on the distributor timing curve adjustments, one of our distributors was used as an example.

Anywho that right there is something I would have loved to have around when I had my car, that way I could get rid of my lag on the bottom end and help max out my top end.

why would a weber cause u to fail emission test?

they are not 50 state legal....in california you cant have them on a emission car...also i think they run a bit rich....

shepherd79

you can adjust the mixture to lean, and try to pass it but some states have visual check. So if you changed the carb you won't pass visual check= fail emission test.

i don't think it is a jetting, it looks more like idle screw that is on thottlebody.
i think you have TB for EFI car.
plus the other picture. well those lines look like coolant lines.

Thanks A20A1, that may be an avenue I pursue in time... in time.. . yee haw.
Definately a big difference in taper, I have not done the drive with the tools in my front pocket yet ..LOL

Regarding the thread, what is there a fuel bowl on this Thing that were calling a weber. The bolt pattern is so close, Renault is following Ford with using existing cores and making them into thottle bodys as cost saving measures???remembering now that AMC partnered up with them.... WTF GM has done things too, but the worst case I ever saw was a dummy transfer case on a Bronco II , two wheel drive,,, factory my friends, yeppers.

And now diesel is not such a crazy idea either for the air intake side, were talking renault here. Hey dat what ya got there? do renault dogpile search for parts, maybe something....

But it has grooves and what looks like an o-ring... so I think it's a mixture adjustment screw, just for air?
Or is that how they make micro adjustments to idle? Leak in air when the Throttle plates are closed?

Those old cars had mechanical injection right?

shepherd79
10-19-2006, 11:37 AM
yeah there is an o-ring, but if you take 3g efi idle screw out you will see that it has o-ring too.
the reason it made me believe that it is idle adjusting screw was the tapered cone shape at the end. just like 3G idle screw.

Make it TBI or weld on injector bungs and run EFI.
