View Full Version : Should I buy this? (you guys are going to kill me)

Well, I have the opportunity to buy this engine part:

http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/personal_site/my_accord/2006/mugen_cover/mugen_cover.jpg

This is the actual MUGEN MF204 race engine valve cover. This engine is the race version of the B20A.

If you compare it to my stock B20A cover, you can see that the holes pretty much all line up.

http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/personal_site/my_accord/2006/b20a_cover/b20a_cover_1.jpg

The only difference is the far right hole that sits higher than the other ones. I guess this could be solved by using a higher stud on that section.

Here's what bugs me out:
There is NO place to add oil on this cover. It could be added by the vent hole (which isn't in the same place as the stock one) but it would still be a pain to do so. I could use a really small funnel and add it through the dipstick too. Remember that this is a race car valve cover, they use a dry sump system so oil is added elsewhere on these badboys

Of course, the paint on it isn't that great, this can be taken care of. easily.

Considering it would cost around 100 bucks to get it, should I still buy it?

A18A
10-25-2006, 02:16 AM
it looks kinda weird imho, but since its a rare part, get it :D as for oil, just take off the valve cover whenever you need to add some, its not as if its a thingy that needs to be done everytime you fill up on gas ;)

it also doesnt look like it has a timing belt cover thingy either

would you happen to have info or a link about this MF204? :)

mkymonkey
10-25-2006, 02:46 AM
do it dude, just buy a funnel that will fit the dipstick hole and youre set. the only problem with that is that it takes long as fucking time to feed it oil

but that valve cover would look soooo fucking killer painted just like the one you have now with grinded off lettering. by that i mean polished

carotman
10-25-2006, 02:51 AM
I will probably to repaint it to match this style:

Maybe not as "beige". We'll see anyway.

I would buy it and have a oil filler hole machined in. That would resolve the pain in the ass oil changes.

That little port is for oil to be blow out of the head (its do to crank case pressure, also know as blowback), not for oil to go into the head. You could drill holes and run then to a catch can as all the turbo guys do.

Here is a pic. they actually tapped them int he front of the valve cover on this shot. You can do it on the back.

I'll buy it and worry about the rest later. I'll have a spare B20A to test fit the cover on it.

I think the paint is so ugly, it will have to be repainted for sure. An oil filler hole could be machined on it but it might cost more than the cover itself haha. Maybe I could get the oil hole from a D15 engine and have it welded on the Mugen cover. It wouldn't be original anymore and would lose a bit of it's value.

If I ever take the car to a mechanic, I hope they don't do me a favor and try to change the oil. I'm sure the mechanic would drain the oil and then realise there's no way he can add new oil haha.

think of all the beer u could buy instead!!

i dont understand the mindset behind spending $$$$ on parts just cause they are rare. if they look better or perform even a little bit better, i can see, but not just because they are hard to come by.

no offense to anybody that DOES buy stuff for those reasons, to each his own of course. :D

Maybe it's the fact that it's in poor condition visually

He took notice of the fob on the keychain.

Guy walked over to the car and went to stick the key into the doorlock, then stopped when he noticed that it wasn't there. I think he just stared blankly at it for a solid minute before looking for other places to stick that key. After that he looked at the key and found the fob, giving it this "Shit, I'm a dumbass!" look.

I thought MF204 is something in the past but on Mugen home page (http://www.mugen-power.com/motorsports/f3/index.html) it says they are still supplying MF204C to Toda Racing in Japan and Neal Brown Engineering in UK for F3 racing - obviously the powerunit is still in aciton but I dont know if these are the same unit as MF204 based on B20A.
In anyway, I would definately buy it if I have a B20A.
