definitely sounds like shift linkage.

when my stepdad wanted me to get rid of my crappy old '69 lesabre, (twice the size of my 85) he pulled the linkage out thinking i'd never figure what happened. thought it'd be funny to ask me if i'd checked the linkage, as if i'd say "the what?"

i left that beast sitting for too long and it got towed to the scrapyard. hope you're in a driveway, and hope you get it fixed soon.

It's not actually the shift linkage, it is the TQ rod. Look for a circular piece of metal and a bolt. That's what hold it on. If you dont have that, you will not make it very far without it popping off again. The rod actually bolts onto the transmission.

EDIT: it is number 18 in this pic

Honestly you can get the parts you need at a hardware store, but you dont even know what you are looking for. It is a large washer with a screw sized hole and a screw to hold it down.

reanimator420
10-28-2006, 03:34 PM
i sorta do but have no clue if it would work

Yes, but the washer needs to be 5 or 6 times larger then the hole in the middle of it. I would take the safe route and buy the proper parts, but you seem to not want to do that.
