well i went over to Picopops house and he helped me install it...here are the pics.
we took off the front bumper, battery and the stock intake.

after a few cuts...and some very smart calls from Coco(picos buddy) they got it set up.

Not surprisingly, the engine bay gets hot.


Most of the miniscule gains you pick up will be from removing the restrictive intake piping, giving a smoother channel for the air to flow, and adding more plenum volume pre-throttlebody.

Yes, the elbow should be removed. That will make a far more responsive intake. That cheapass paper filter it came with is choking the hell out of it as well. Check into getting a decent size AEM Dryflo.

A neat way to vent the heat from your engine bay a lot faster is by shimming the bottom bolts of your hood mount with a couple stainless steel and rubber washers. You can increase the angle of attack your hood sits and give a larger vacuum draw for the exit. Remove the weatherstrip gasket too. Unless you live in an extremely wet area and have a bajillion exposed electrical points, it's not really serving much purpose.

i dont worry about alot of heat....the radiator fans are jumped so they are on all the time. the filter it came with is mesh....not even paper...i went to the store but i could not find a K&N that was universal at the store...i will have to order one online. or as soon a jim get his lazy butt to check his filter.


Yeah, it's not really doing anything except putting the filter lower into "harm's way", adding a few cubic inches of excess volume, and giving the air that much more time to straighten out.
That's why I support building your own a hell of a lot more. Doing the calculations and making a straighter channel really is the way to go.

that is what pico is doing...i like mine...sounds better...i dont need a top of the line one....or one that has been computer engenerd...lol

too much work....i dont want to run 2 guage cable to the back of my car. i knoe it would look cleaner but im trying to keep it stockish...i just like the sound...i dont care that im not geting all the CFM i can....like i said il check it out later when i get a better filter....the guy in the red is Picos friend like geddy said....he owned a 87 accord...but he never joined....he helped out alot..he made it happen...im happy:thumbup:

his filter fits in there really tight, the bend was the only way to get it in there.
Maybe a different size filter will fit without the bend

I've seen some small intercoolers on 01 Jettas. That would be sweet if you could fabricate one to fit.

EDIT- The only reason to get a intercooler if for TURBO though!

dude....mine is a tight fit as well...but a nice snip snip of that wheel well lining fixed that lol....though i really just cut it becasue i kinda rippe it off on the fwy not because of fitment issues. but an intake WILL fit under there without that bend...ask cheese, he has the same intake on ole blue

I know it will fit without the bend. I have mine in there without one and with the lining still intact.
When Jesse has time I'll help him redo the filter mounting
