I was just wondering (and not sure if it matters between EFI and Carbed) but which kills gas?

1.) The fact that the further the pedal is pushed down the more gas is consumed

2.) The higher RPM the more fuel consumed

3.) Is it some sort of mixture of both?

I guess too, to better see where I'm coming from...if you had an MT would you save more gas staying in 3rd doing 40 or 4th doing 25?

well on my dx auto sedan....i put 20 bucks of gas like 7.5 gals...it drove 242 miles...most of it was highway driving 75-80....that is the car running a bit rich also.

Its more rpms based, but if its WOT then you will be sucking in more fuel than you need. Usually on carbs under load ive noticed that 75% gas pedal = same power as 100% gas pedal, though the latter would be using mroe fuel.

if you are in 3rd doing 30mph, you would be better off in 4th, but not 5th

I mad the question of "would you save more gas staying in 3rd doing 40 or 4th doing 25?" not for my personal gain, but just as a comparison, say if it was held at a track or testing ground. Those aren't my normal driving patterns by any means.

I would say door number one. doing 25 in fourth gear is harder on your pressure plate and clutch, and is kinda bogging down unless your on a flat plain and your really not feeling it bogg or vibrate. The newer cars it is really hard to tell. And Yes RPM definatley eats gas, you would be surprised the difference in gas mileage from doing 75 and then doing 55-60 , I own four diff cars and all of them get consideratley better mileage keeping it under 70mph, and under 2800 rpm, (if terrrain allows that low rpm) EFI I would guess will always get better mpg as long as O2 sensors (among certain other sensors) are not old and slow, and proper maintenance has been kept up on them, including all filters.

if the gorund is flat staying in 4th doing 25 would save more fuel.
but if you are slight uphill 3rd would save more fuel.

But in the same sense, your pedal is pushed further down as well...

I know it's a mixture of both, just wondering which has a greater impact I guess...kind of a weird subject to focus on.

i know one mechanic said that as you get to WOT the carb leans itself out just a werid fact not sure if its true or not

That is the car nerd abbreviation for "wide open throttle."
