It will bolt up and work just fine. I am not sure but 88-89 may have some electrical solenoids up top. in whole thing it should work.

It will work. I would have the transmission went through though. Front wheel drive transmission are no fun to pull. I go through 5sp transmissions in my 98 Civic like once a month. There is no real easy way to do it. Hope you have some air tools because some times the axle nuts are on REAL tight. If it were me I'd slap in a 5 speed. That's what I did and total parts ended up costing $250 with a new clutch, flywheel, and clutch cable. Also, it is alot lighter. If you stick with auto STAY WITH THE HONDA AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID. I don't care what anybody says on here about it being a scam. I fried two transmission using DEXTRON III. Just a little advice.
