That will definitely do the job man!

So how are your lines going to work?

The the two from the exhaust will be pulling the gases, and you have two running from the valve cover? What did you do with the stock black box hole?

05-04-2015, 06:27 PM
Thanks. I got rid of all the black box crap when I installed th intake manifold. The only thing you need is the map sensor.
I am running two -12 and two -10 lines from the valve cover and one -10 to the back of the block. I am going to plug the exhaust port I don't think I'll need it with 5 lines going to the catch can.

What is that fitting going into the firewall? Or is it a mount?

89T
05-05-2015, 07:57 PM
It's the old ac lines. Yeh $$$... lol! I've got everything welded up. The welds aren't as nice as I would have liked, but it will do the job. Next up is stripping the paint off the vc and painting it. Then build the lines.

87roach
05-06-2015, 07:03 PM
Those lines look ace man, I'm liking the black hosing.

Liken Tim asked, did you stuff anything into the box? Is there a drain at all on the box?

I don't see how that dipstick could be pushed out now! I am curious to hear the results of this serious box.

89T
05-07-2015, 04:01 AM
So, there is a -10 fitting on the right lower side of the box. You can see it in the pictures. That line is for the drain back. I pulled the factory catch can and realized that there was a drain back for it . Well I did not plan for that. It's been awhile since I pulled the black box out. I refitted the box to accept a -10an fitting. There is a baffle in the new box. The top 2 -10an fittings are at an angle because of it.

I ran into another problem with one of the plug wires. When I plug it in the spark plug won't fire, but if I back it out loose it will fire.

Was it a faulty spark plug or the wire even?

I am curious about your pcv system because of the vented top. There will have to be quite a bit of vacuum for the gases to be pulled into the exhaust because you'll mainly be sucking in fresh air, because they are before the other lines.

What do you think?

So it's a 4.2 bosh sensor? Ive been told that there is a limited supply of those left because they have moved up to 4.9 now and plx bought most if not all that was left.

Like the vent system you got there to. Did you remove the stock black catch can and add a plug?

The 4.2 part# 17205
This is mostly meant for those who don't want to wait for the mail man.
Here is a link on the difference between the 4.2 and 4.9 sensors.
Bosch LSU 4.9 is superior to LSU 4.2 sensors - ECOTRONS (http://www.ecotrons.com/technology/bosch_lsu_49_is_superior_to_lsu_42_sensors/)

After doing some fourm searching, it seems like the 4.2 and 4.9 sensors are not lasting over 6 months on most high power builds. That's why I got the economy version. Lol. It swings just fine for me.

I left the box in and tapped the top hole for a -10 an fitting. I have to order a weld in -12 AN steel fitting for the oil pan drain back. I totally forgot about that. I also need to order the d - series block kit that Tim got, to tie into the block. It seems like the single -10 an is not cutting it. I may plug it and add 2 -12 fittings to the side/bottom for those connections.

Well there's a laundry list of s*** wrong with it. Looks like the crank walked. Chewed up the bearing and the number 3 main cap. It was about to spin a rod bearing at the same location. piston number 2 the lower oil ring just hanging off of there. Hopefully the cam is alright. Question is do i do another a20or just dropped my b18 in there. It would be a lot cheaper if I just do another a 20. with the B18 and I would have to get a new intake, turbo manifold, downpipe, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, cams, axels, mounts the whole nine yards.

So after careful inspection of the crank. I realized there were marks on the flywheel. I am pretty sure it was the clutch. So when I installed the new clutch, pressure plate, and fly wheel the clutch would not disengage. So I had to over adjust it to disengage. I took it right to the line of engagement. There was constant pressure on the crank causing the wear of the bearings. I was told it was normal until the clutch was broken in. So where I am at now is figuring out a way to get more movement from the pedal to the trans. I did a auto to manual swap. The pedal always felt weird. Like there was not enough movement.
Ideas?

87roach
06-13-2015, 09:53 AM
Hmm that's curious..

I am wondering what is causing it to be constantly engaged? There has to be pressure applied to the lever to engage it so are you getting full movement on that? Are you using a stock clutch cable or the integra one? As far as I recall it's a pretty straight forward system so something doesn't sound quite right. How long as the clutch been installed? Did you ever use a stock type clutch after your 5 speed swap? Or did you go straight to a higher rated clutch right away? I am just curious to know if you noticed any difference or if it's just different since you installed the new clutch.

89T

Over adjustment in order for it to fully disenguage. I have the light weight flywheel, clutchnet red pressure plate and 6 puck clutch. I don't remember if I installed a pedal assembly out of a coupe or hatch. I do know that it doesn't feel fluid. Like a factory 5 speed car would. I am also using the stock cable. I spoke to Tim and Josh and we all feel that something is not right with the pedal assembly. It's like there is not enough mechanical movement. We have ruled out cable stretch. If it were to stretch it would remain at a longer lenth still enabling you to adjust that out as long as you still have adjustment. A steel cable would just get longer, and not act like a rubber band and contract. It seems like there's 3/8" to 1/2" of adjustment on the cable from 1/8" of free play in order for it to disengage.

87roach
06-16-2015, 07:03 AM
With that being said.. I guess it's time you take a closer look at the pedal assembly and see what's up? That is a nightmare of a job so maybe you can see if everything is working without pulling it out of the car.. although I guess you'd have to if you have to swap it out for another one. I also really don't see a logical reason why the coupe or hatch versions would be different but it's possible.

Let use know what you find on inspection!

It might be my sedan thats different.?? I wonder how hard it would be to convert it to hydrolic.

Nothing from the machine shop yet. And I will be the one to assemble it. So if it screws up its my fault.

87roach
06-16-2015, 05:28 PM
Oh right, I forgot you were a sedan, hmmm. I still don't know why, I think you'd have to have them side by side to tell, maybe someone on here has experience with that? Maybe the boys down in NZ swapping trannys out daily have some input.

What work have you specified to be done at the machine shop? Was there more damage than you first though?

Now I am assuming you know why that piece of three eighths inch plate is sandwiched between the bushings. I am having a hard time believing that it's single heim joint on the lower control arm will be of any use. I really do not think that Honda got it wrong.

89T
06-29-2015, 06:32 PM
So far the head needs exhaust valve guides. Intake guides look dam near new. Nothing more, there having trouble getting the rings. There is no build stamp on the pistons. The ram air pipe is 4 inch. I am moving everything forward so I'll make my own. So, if you look at the stock bar, it appears that it is very similar to a torsion bar. If you are familiar with it. The bar is bendable. Perhaps a solid bar would offer an upgrade but the thing that has my interest is the solid 2 point mount on the lower control arm. Which means that it would limit the twist of the lower control arm. I don't see that happening with a single point "swivel " heim joint. Thoughts?

89T
06-29-2015, 07:15 PM
Please note that if you move the mounting point forward, you will also have to move it outward in order to retain the correct suspension geometry.

Here's an idea how much more room I made. My guess would be they will catch it where the toe hook goes keeping the elevation of the motor mount. I mean that is the way I would mass produce it. The way I have it gained me a good 4 inches more room. I also removed the other cross section where the hood latch and rdiator mounted to. I am toying with the idea of shaving the front mount all together. Also on the traction bar I have a solid rear mount and a heim front. They will use a double heim rod. Of course you supplied a cross member so who knows. I can't wait to see the end product.[emoji3]

this is what is needed for our cars. My front crossmember broke in half. Richard had a Spare crossmember and he was in town the first week of July. I been talking to Innovative mounts to make us a traction bar. they already make one for the 88-91 prelude and the company(explictperformance) that made them for us went out of business. i think Tim was the last one to buy a traction bar from them. i tried emailing them but no response. Im talking to Kevin at Innovative. i gave him a 8 week deadline or i told him i was just going to get one custom made. My car needs more Jerry Parts. i still have the short shifter that you made me back in 2006

So not to post jack. A u shape was cut then I was box back in and welded. However the header is hitting the cross member under load at hard launches and stuff. So he can either get a different header to see if is fits better of get a track bar that will be out of the way.

Looking good!

I can't recall if you got your motor back from the shop all sorted out yet or not? Is the motor your test fitting to an extra block or the original one you were getting repaired?

89T
09-17-2015, 06:02 PM
That's the old block. I got a "new to me" block and had it machined. I got it back last Wednesday. I just want to sort out the mounts and such before I put it together.

89T
09-18-2015, 05:12 PM
Okay so. Bandsaw blade broke again. So I stopped working on on the motor mounts. I decided to see what was wrong with the clutch seeing that I have the old motor and transmission mocked up.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/18/dc2f4a20e582c4103f8db3c303dcc4f9.jpg
So from 0 with the clutch fully depressed I've only got 1 5/16 inches of travel. Now from where I had the clutch adjusted to originally at full disengagement is an additional inch and a half past that 1 5/16 inch. Meaning that I need 2 13/16 of travel. So what I'm getting at is WTF. Will Somebody go out and measure those for me.? The Only real solution that i can seeI at this point is relocating where the clutch cable connects to the armature to about halfway down the armature.

89T
09-18-2015, 05:18 PM
This is about how much more pedal movement I need.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/18/503442112c4e71d1b1dc019ab9721c3d.jpg

87roach
09-18-2015, 08:01 PM
I'd have to check mine to see if its similar at all.

I do notice though that compared to stock, the integra cable has less travel in it all together, I pretty much have it at max adjustment and there is enough pedal to shift normally but maybe 1/4 less than stock(pedal movement). Anyway, what I am getting at is that stock will probably be a better option to go if you need the most pedal travel you can get(I can't remember which you have, sorry).

Man that's affordable, I don't think I could get a price like that around here! Mind you, I don't think I could have piece of mind with a $13 cable doing an essential part of driving.

I hope that solves the problem though.

89T

So, I replaced the clutch cable and it made little to no difference. I used an old trick to gain more travel. I cut and trimmed the clutch pedal and slid it forward
about a half inch. Ant this is what I gained. The picture is with my phone resting on the Break pedal. Stock height and then modified height.

That's unfortunate about the new cable not being the quick fix.. dang.

So with the pedal modification do you now have the proper amount of movement? I suppose it's sort of hard to tell when you can't quite test it on a running engine. Nice handy work though!

09-27-2015, 03:54 PM

Clutchnet is your problem right there. My green is the same way the cable is all the way out just hanging on the last two threads.

Only thing to fix it right beside getting a real clutch that fits is maybe cut the flywheel down enough.

I looked and the preludes cables are longer according to Rockauto but I have no idea if they hook up the same.

I like your motor plate idea!

So we are saying that the pressure plate is the problem Or the flywheel? I have a stock set so I'll measure them up. Do you have the stock flywheel?

Thanks on the motor plate comment. The hard part is keeping it simple so it can easily be duplicated.

I've gonna ahead and tired to contact the two members that have them to see if i can buy the schematic from one of them but never heard back from them. Here's a photo of what it looks like. I would assume that it's not much different then a H2B plate. The other cool thing i read one the build it that the fitment in the engine bay is like it was ment to be there and since the A20 trans doesn't have a trans mount you do have to run one if you dont want to. 7189

I already talked to JohnnyO. He no longer has it. I am trying to get ahold of jason.

Now on a side note.
The 2 flywheels are the same.
The pressure plate mounted with no clutch shows 3/32 of an inch of difference on the throw out bearing contacts. Now with the same clutch installed and mounted. There is 6/32 of difference that is just over an 1/8 of a inch.

my clutchnet red pressure plate I had no more adjustment on my cable. its just the way things are. I had a transmission shop guy tell me that its because i used a aluminum flywheel and because it was lighten it was shorter than a stock flywheel and thats why my 3rd gear would grind. I laughed and told him he didnt rebuild my transmission right. trans failed after 20k and a rebuild. I just installed the trans that came in my coupe that had all integra gears but by then i went back to a ACT clutch with street disk. It had OEM pedal feel and i used the same cable and had plenty of adjustment. When i took out my pressure plate it looked like my Throw out bearing never disengaged and the fingers were worn down. I emailed clutchnet about it and they said they could replace the fingers for 125. I saved it but now it just on my junk pile

89T
10-04-2015, 05:46 AM
The fly wheel was the first thing that I checked. It seems to be a match to the stock counterpart. I agree that the pressure plate is the problem.

89T is right, and I have done it with my little pro-mig 135 welder if you go look in my hatchback build for my stainless exhaust. You have to switch up your wire to something like 308L IIRC and the best is to use tri-mix gas. Co2/Ar can be used however it causes a bit of impurities and the weld. Now Tig is the shit for exhaust welding but requires a few other skill-sets and equipment that most wont have access to. In either case fabrication details like back purging the pipes when welding (like what 89T has done here) helps minimize corrosion from the inside out. devil is in the details

I didn't see the pipe sections well earlier on FB, but i realized these have a nice bevel for butt joining

I'm not very happy with the phantom grip lsd. It's a good way to introduce metal shavings to your gear box.
I didn't get any pics, but I went with a MFactory helical lsd.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191008/d5915f9c9f4ce9c32debf73f0cb1f3ca.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191008/2ea96cb3daaaea1833cf23ecac9e9d0d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191008/2619282eeec962cf4a2f374f56d2211e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191008/bc3fbfee9b3bfc3a30f2a39f5f10ddf9.jpg
