Hey guys,

I found an '89 LX-i sedan for sale with 220K on the odo. The car has some issues like the driver's side window doesn't work and it vibrates at idle with the shifter in Drive but when in Neutral idles good. The seller also tells me that the tranny shifts slow when cold but works okay when fully warmed up.
It also needs 2 tires and probably and alignment. The seller wants $700 for it.

Is that a good deal?

that sounds ok to me, but i would ask for $500 because of the tranny

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it seems like a good price cause Kelly Blue Book shows the value of an 89 Accord at $1250 to $1500. I don't know how reliable KBB is but I don't think anyone is really gonna pay that much. However, I have seen some 3rd Gens for as much as $2000.

Well, your looking at tranny work, alighnment & figuring out the idle problem. So might as well throw that in there while jewing the price down. Maybe go $400, cause money talks & B.S. walks. Welcome to the forum.

If you are referring to rust, then I would say no.

lol....i'd saly just offer him 300. see how that goes. dont say anything else but "here" and prop 300 bucks in his face. see what he says lol. then just be like...well this is what the car is worth to me. i still have to spend money on tires, a motor mount, probably a new tranny, and figure out the idle problem :) <<<<that means smile after you say that lol

and since we're on the subject of how much we paid, i paid 300 for mine and have put 5000+ on it :(

Wow! Only $135 ? I guess Accords are cheap in New Zealand. I wonder how much they'll charge to ship it to the States. :)

The idle problem is most likely the engine mounts being hard or broken. put in new ones and I bet the vibration goes away. Use only Honda mounts though.

I paid 100$ USD for my 89 lx-i, and thusfar put roughly 1400$ worth of work into it to get it running well. I would say that 500$ is reasonable.

I paid 800 for mine. I live in Seattle. I didn' tknow it had had a big whack to the front frame. but I had POS #1 up on blocks d/t carb issues i didnt' want to invest in. happier with PFI. so a little cannnibilizing from POS#1 to POS #2, a trip to the salvage for a left motor mount (full body massage at idle prior to rubberizing the mount, (My wife said it vibrated a lot, but not in the good way!) a practice first time paint job, and I got a sweet commuter that I wouldn't take <1500 for. Thsese are just great little cars, and this is a great board, bTw. Very helpful.

I know there are parts of the country where that expression is commonly used, and probably nothing much is meant by it. But there are other parts of the country, and a whole lot of people that find it offensive.

Looks like it was you. Lets try to think outside the box now.

If I said Jewing with a capitol letter, that would be offensive, but no I didn't.
I said jewing which means.

1. To bargain shrewdly or unfairly with. Often used with down.
2. To haggle so as to reduce (a price). Often used with down.

Thank you very much. Now go pick apart some other post with your political correctness.....

Well, I just spent a bundle having a shop replace the clutch, CV boots and fix some oil leaks. However, to me, my car is worth a lot more than that. I bought the car new. It has over 217K on the odometer, but I still prefer my car to something else. It gets decent gas mileage, is comfortable, and usually pretty reliable.

Interesting. I came to this site to get more information regarding how much a 1989 Honda Civic is worth, because the Kelley Blue Book site only goes back to 1991. Although I gained some much need information, I was also left wondering when it became so called "PC" to not post something that is offensive, to not become defensive and further offensive when someone brings the offense to your attention in a kindly manner?

Oh, well. I guess times really have changed. Again, thanks for the information.
