My '82 is ready for a service! It got a small service this time last year but this time I'm gonna give it the works as its travelled a lot of miles this year, yeh almost 900 !

But regardless of the mileage it deserves a bit of attention. I've already got a new (genuine Honda) air filter (ebay), forgotten all about the fuel filter until now & last week I phoned Honda parts to get prices & avaiaibility of a timing belt, HT leads, Dis cap & a rotor arm. The timing belt came in at $60.00, leads at $280.00, the cap at $58.00 & the rotor arm at $16.00. Cheap eh? So needless to say I just ordered the belt and went to the motor factors for the rest.

Except they no longer do service parts for 2gees anymore :thumbdn:

How f**king crap! So ebay came to the rescue with a Lucas cap, I've ordered a rotor arm from Lucas UK & I can't source leads from anywhere. In fact I can by them singularly, but they are bright orange & I just want standard black ones.

How come a simple task has to be so difficult?

So it'll probably be in between Xmas & New year before it gets looked at now, that is assuming I've got the time, the parts & the weather is okay!

Yeah welcome to the continuing battle I've been facing. You're either going to have to get smart with the parts, have them rebuilt yourself, or build your own. My car is in serious need of some new parts too, fortunately I found a car just north of me that the owner is letting me rip apart this weekend. Since Honda doesn't make crap for them anymore... :(

Soon the 3geer's will be feeling this pain too...

Do you mean to say that the regular auto parts stores don't carry things like cap and rotor? Man I'd be royally screwed if that happened here. There's plenty of that kinda stuff here.

BTW what are HT Leads? Is that spark plug wires?

WTF kind of place are you living in? A Bosch cap and rotor kit is like 12 bucks at cambodian tire, and you can buy plug wires for anything, in any colour and any design virtually anywhere. Your parts people suck. Tell them I say so.

I think its a government conspiracy to drive old cars off the road here. Seriously its getting tougher driving an older car here than ever before, the parts situation is unbelievable, only a few years ago you could get anything but now the 2gees aren't even listed in the factors parts books. Rare cars in the UK now I suppose.

As I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum, the last time I saw another 2g (except on ebay) was at least about 6 months ago. Even 3gees are few & far between, again the last one in the flesh would've been... actually I can't remember!

Man, this does suck. I've been fighting this war for awhile my damn self. Sometimes these jokers who own the old Honda parts cars are like "Yeah, well I know the stuff is hard to find" and they charge a grip for stuff. Certainly not everybody, but it seems like the junk car guys are even getting hip to the fact. A lot of kids are jumping on the old school bandwagon, thinking since they painted their vents yellow on their Civic, they want an old Honda to play with. So, the supply is dwindling, the demand is going up and the market is responding. HOPEFULLY, we'll see a few of these young bucks on ebay or CL with an ad that states they thought they could rebuild an old Honda, but are selling it instead. Seriously, people buy these old moody cars thinking they can slap on a hose and some duct tape and it'll run. I'm hoping word gets out that these old cars are harder to work on, parts are hard to find, and you have to really want to do up an old Honda. Then, only the serious people will be in the game. 2ndgenguy found a dude who let him just go at an 84 LX, but it wasn't a $50 deal. Still, it makes the final product that much more respected and appreciated... Okay, I'm done.

Of motor factors local to me we've got Express Factors (nationwide co), Dingbro (nationwide co) & Halfords (more of a shop/nationwide co). Most of the small factors have been pushed out the game by these big companies who then inturn, only stock fast turnover parts as its all about profit rather than providing a service. There are no small factors in my area that I know of & I've worked in the motortrade all my working life.

The jap specialists don't seem to cater for older cars here either. I wanted to get a radiator support for one of my cars & ended up phoning every one listed in the UK. I was told by them all that the item was no longer available. I eventually sourced a new repro one in the US but, luckily spotted an Accord for breaking here so got its panel chopped off instead.

With the joys of the internet if you can find me a UK supplier of Leads for my 1602cc '82 Accord, I'd be ever so grateful! :)

If I knew what high tension leads were, I'd love to help. I assume that they are spark plug wires? Go from the distributor cap to the plugs? Can't these be made fairly easily?

To conclude on this thread... got ignition wires from ebay (US) & fitted them today. Car is running a whole lot better but the new coil lead was too short so using the old one ATM.

It turns out that the other iginition parts on the car were all as new (even the plugs) so at least I've got a small stock of spares now.

How mental is this? I called the local Honda dealer today to enquire about my new timing belt (in stock now) and also to ask about a new oil filter. There's 3 showing in the UK so I've ordered them all. Imagine phasing out an oil filter?

Honda, you need to start thinking about older cars!

I'm thinking about getting a CR-V so its not as if old car users are not worth bothering about from a manufacturers perspective.

Here, Vauxhall (GM) run schemes for cars over a certain age to qualify for cheaper servicing, offer discounted parts & they help out with sponsorship for Vx car clubs at shows.

Now thats forward thinking.

now the 2gees aren't even listed in the factors parts books.

It doesn't help that most staff in 'Bigger' places seem to think that if the car it isn't in their books they don't have bits for it... when many parts are generic -like plug leads! and all that is required is a simple comparison.

Very true.

You've reminded me of an article I read in a classic car magazine that covered this very subject & then compiled a comparison check list. Will try & look it out...

yes they are spark plug wires, they are called High Tension Leads in many references. They withstand High tension current, you can even buy by the foot, the basic wire called high tension lead at a well stocked commercial electrical supply house. It is the same wire as spark plug wires are made of.
I also can not believe that Advanced Auto, O reillys, Auto zone, or pep boys would not be glad to ship those tune up parts to UK. Just go to one of those distributors websites and shop away, I think.
