View Full Version : can i use this filter?
well after doing the vacuum removal, i see this part:

This is to have vapor venting from the gas tank via the firewall line... to the air box... the filter is added to allow air to be sucked in along with the fuel vapor, that way you don't get straight vapor which may cause you to run a tad rich.
would it be ok to use this little filter in the black box sincethe black box is no longer used?

i don't think it would be a good idea to have vapors in the air, but since that line doesn't connect to anywhere you can just cap it off or stick some kind filter on it i guess.
i never had anything on it.

My vapor line from my gas tank is just hanging there, a little nub on the firewall. Why does it need to go back into the engine for anything other than emissions control? Let it vent to the air.

if you rig up your charcoal canister right you shouldn't need to deal with filters and the such. It only needs 3 lines to work properly, IN line from the tank, SIGNAL line from any manifold vacuum source and the PURGE line, the thick one that runs up to the airbox or carb. If you stick a filter on that line, when the car is sitting in the sun, the vapours are just gonna come right through the filter media. The charcoal can is designed to absorb the vapour and trap it, and then slowly release it into the intake when the car is running. It's the best way to keep the gas smell out of your car.
so should i just put the filter onto the vent and just leave it like that? since part of the vacuum removal is removing the charcole canister

Well that picture allows for the carb to take in excess fuel vapor but just sucking up the vapor alone would stall the motor on occasion so you add in the air filter so air and fuel vapor can get sucked in and mixed before going to the air cleaner. the filter is tiny and resctirctive so not that much vapor escapes into the engine bay... it's more likely to go into the air cleaner since there is no restriction. And vapor already comes from there from the float bowl. so it's nothing new.

I don't smell gas... maybe I just am used to it, and thats why I'm so happy when driving my car...

the filter is not for the vent, it's for the carb... so the carb gets clean air at the same time it picks up fuel vapor.

Just as FYI and I,m not sure even on our cars will do it. But people that top of there gas tank, you know like ram it full with 2$ more in gas, raw fuel could come thru and ruin the charcol canister or in your case run out there in to your engine compartment. Just be aware of it.
