I have an SE-i. Among the unique parts on the car is special glass - bronze tinted. If you break it, you either have to find a junker or order it from Honda. In 2002, I caught a rock in the windshield, and the replacement was an insurance claim of $650.00 - the insurance company had no alternative because the glass was unavailable from the aftermarket. No problem for me as my glass insurance was zero deductible.

A couple of weeks ago the same thing happened. The crack started spreading at about 1" per day. Called up Honda - uh oh - not a single windshield in the whole USA. "Sorry Charlie." Crap. Then I had a thought, called up Honda of Canada, and am happy to say that waiting for me at a dealer there is the LAST SE-i windshield in Canada, and therefore the last SE-i windshield in North America. I have to drive up there to get it put in as they refuse to ship it to the lower 48, so it's Road Trip time. What's 700 miles for my 3G?

I'm thinking of paying more attention to the junkyards now, because if this happens again an SE-i owner is S.O.L. Maybe I'll lay in a spare set of glass. SE-i owners....take heed.

that sucks... there is an se-i coupe in my neighborhood that doesn't run and the body is in alright shape but the interior is ripped up, its an auto i left my phone number one day but they never even called.... and it just sits it makes me sad. So the bronze tint is what makes it special? could you replace it with any other 3g windshield?

I don't really know if the main part of the windshield is tinted (I think it is, but mildly). There is a darker band at the top. I just didn't want to get a new piece that doesn't look right with the rest of the car. Since on average I get someone asking me if it's for sale about every two weeks, I gotta keep my average up (ok, the last person that asked was a wino LOL).

My personal opinion is that the front glass can have a very light tint, witness the copper-like color on the old FoMoCo heated windshields of the 90's. But I don't know for sure.

All I know is that next week I'm honking up to Montreal, weather permitting. 331 miles from my town. Maybe do a little casino action while I'm there.

Montreal is beautiful and I will actually be going up there Jan 16 for a hockey game and to pick up my manual steering rack.

If you are interested in a B20 I know where one is there.

Blue or green tint is what they said with my car I just had it done in October. I think I ended up with the green tint thats all they could get. I can't see the differance its very very slight tint if at all.

The dealership can't make me a key anymore either kinda bummed me out.

Why can't they? They don't have the blanks? I know that I've tried to get another valet key (the round-headed one), and the couple of dealers I've tried have not had the blanks, and they said they would have to order a box of 30 or something in order to sell me just one (Not). But the regular keys...I would think try another dealer, that blank should be available.

If you don't have any key at all, a locksmith can make a new key from looking at the number on the ignition lock cylinder. You have to take it out though to get at the info.

It's a regular SE-i 4 door, just like the factory pictures, except down 1 inch.

The strange thing is that the key to the '90 Legend I just bought almost works in my '88 LX. It doesn't quite hit the pins right, but I can kinda halfass turn the key.

And, as far as the bronze tinted glass, my Legend came equipped with that as well. It doesn't seem like actual window tint you'd find on a car per se; it's more of a colored glass. I like the effect actually, it gives a tiny bit of shade and glare reduction in the interior. The windshield is also 'tinted' like that, but I think it's so a slightly lesser degree. So, I'd have to say that the SEi windshield is tinted like that, and with what W261 said, if they're gone it looks like any other SEi owners will have to grab standard windshields. That kinda sucks since one of my friends had an SEi coupe that blew up on her... it's a shame she wasn't able to keep it for parts.

Edit: I also know how the scarcity of parts situation goes... when I was fixing my Celica up, there were several parts I had ordered from the dealer that I was informed I was getting the last set in North America. There were a couple of times I had to wait several weeks for stuff that had to be shipped directly out of Japan, as well.

If you want to get technical, words like "of" and "the" are somtimes left out of acronyms, so it could be either.

Try a different dealer for the key blank. Majestic Honda seems to say they have them:

It was the dealership. They got one of those machines you hold in your hand and put the key code in and punch the blank with it. I dont think the two in town actually have a key machine like Wal mart does.

But i have seen the blanks on line as well although 10$ for a Honda blank seems a little high when Im pretty sure I had the key made for 6$.
