View Full Version : Installing Sony Xplod

My parents just gave me a Sony Xplod system for my 89 LX-i:rockon:
It has:

A 180 watt CD player
2 6.5in speakers
2 6x9in speakers.
1 cheap hat(already ripped)

I have the player wireing adapter but should I think about repacing the stock wires in the car? I don't ever plan on adding a sub to it at least in the near future if that affects anything. Also is there anything I should take into account when installing this with my dad? I seem to not be able to find what I want on the searches.

Thanks,
Steven

P.S. I have little knowledge of sound systems so please speak in english.

no i would not replace the stock wiring unless its not working. wut exactly are you looking for in searches? if you dont know then disconect the neg on the battery and everything will be alright.

well if ur taking the stock player out theres 2 bolts in the back then its pritty much straight forward match the wire colors and eather solder and shrink tube or use connectors i use connector they work just fine but some people are anal about soldering but as far as it goes u can leave the stock wires intact u may have to cut the front baskets so the magnet will clear just make a mounting rind out of the stock one remover the intire basket lol

I was just wondering about the wireing. My dad would probly not agree to changing it anyway as it is working fine as far as I know. He knows what he is doing when it comes to cars. I probobly should have spent more time searching. I tend to get brainfried after a long day. It will be going in next time my dad has time to help and he will teach me how to solder the wires for the adapter. Thanks and sorry for posting to quick.

no problem, yeah its pretty strait forward and easy to do. it would be a nice learning process for ya to tackle by yourself. thats basically how i learned about wiring and soldering. but i usually crimp my wires.

soldering is basically a waste of time unless you're planning on jumping bridges or some shit with your car routinely. just get some good crimp connectors and a wiring harness and you'll be done before you know it.

I want to solder mainly because I want to learn how and also I want to not have to mess with it once it is in. The soldering will only be from the player plug to the plug adapter. My car doesn't have to 2 bolts holding in the stock unit so its easy to yank out. They were gone when I got the car with a nonworking radio installed and a working one sitting in the trunk. Also is there a good way to secure the player in so it can't be yanked out easily? <--(nevermind I just read the directions. Guess I don't think well at 12:40 at night) I always lock my doors and plan on keeping the faceplate locked in my glovebox.

Thanks,
Steven

Got it in except for the drivers side front speaker and need to secure the player. They fit into the stock speaker mounts and covers. The right front side didn't have the mount for the speaker so I'm hitting the junkyard sometime this week. It sounds great. We were surprised about the condition of the stock speakers. They were cracked and brittle. How did they still make any sounds at all?

Thanks for answering my somewhat dumb questions,
Steven

I'll get pics as soon as I can get them off my new razor phone and if I want to dig them out of the trash can to get the pics. My parents are awsome:rockon: (don't tell them I said that). I like my music so that I can stil hear the engine when it hits the 4000 rpm range. My dad sat in my car last night and turned it up to were I could hear it in my room witch is 4 or 5 walls from our garage. I bet the neighboors were :wtf: because he did it in my sisters sentra when he put new front speakers in. My family is big on music.

A lot of the cracking is from their stay in the trash can but they were brittle and cracked when you touched them. The small one is messed up because we used part of it to mount one of the new front speakers. I hate to say but I had another accident to day.

Pulling out of my neighborhood. The chaingang had there big frigging bus parked in the turn lane of the entrance(a marked no parking area) blocking my vision. Thought it was clear but when I pulled out there was a nice big F-150 coming at me at around 55mph. I stepped on it but he still clipped me. He could of swerved into the entrance turn lane a little more and missed me but it is still partially my fault even with that damned bus. The same damned thing almost happened to another truck after the cop got there.

Actually my car is rust free as far as I know. I may eventually take it to a body hop but for now I'm going to replace the taillight and sand and seal the damage. It could of been worse. There is a 6ft or so deep ditch opposite from the entrance of my neighborhood:eek: The worse thing is the sound of other cars driving over small peices of your car.
