First, I would like to thank those who bought stuff from me, help with the chassis work in doing this. The engine hit everything especially the rear crossmember. Had to cut the front of the car from shock towers forward, here is the picture of that.http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/view/975413_a8buf Here is a side picturehttp://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/view/975412_7bohj

Nice one Johnny one of the best engine conversions i've seen in a long while, nice to see someone that devoted and doing a proper job!! I bet with the custom suspension if you took the drag tyres off it would still handle pretty well round the bends!! Ever get tempted to turn it back into road legal?
Anyway good work!!!
Now that people is how you do a proper swap and that also costs a bit more than $3k to do as well!!!!

It is about time you got pics up! Everything looks good I want to come down and see the beast inperson...better yet I cant wait to see it at the track.

Johnny O
12-31-2006, 07:04 AM
THe tranns hits the rear crossmember and the engine would have to sit so far forward that the axles will be at a bad angle. The front suspension is sick, the lower control arms are tubular, the rear crossmember is full tubular, and I have a three link suspension up front to help with traction. I do not how much weigth I saved but the H22 is a very heavy motor. I will put on scales when the car is finished

WoW, that is some very nice work. I know the money is probaly endless when it comes to that car, but what I want to know is how much time you have spent building all that?

Johnny O
12-31-2006, 10:31 PM
My chassis guy did the the work but I helped him with the different ideas. The rear is a solid one piece axle in the rear. As for the one piece front end with the money it takes I rather use it to go faster, but I am looking into going with the fenders so I can run a big tire.

Anyhow, if you have a leak down tester. Do a leak down test before pulling the head. That will let ya know what is going on. Pretty sure you know what & how to test for valves.

i don't know if you've heard of this but the H and B series motors' timing belts flap like a mofo at high rpm's and if it skips a tooth or snaps your fucked.

check out www.vibrantperformance.com

they make H series and B series tensioners that go where the stock PS pump used to be, should solve all your problems with that.

good luck

I found a crank but I have other issues, when the motor became off balanced the piston skirt on one of the cylinder put a grove in one of the wall that was to deep so now i have to get the next size up piston and it is a 3-5 week wait. So i will keep on with up dates.

3words for you...pinks all out.

anyway i am studying your pics like a how to guide.
what size pipe (and thickness of pipe) are you using for your front end?
mainly the pipe where your fenders attach.
what size pipe for the "traction bars"?
is there any thing you would have done different?

i am planning a coupe build and i want to build the front end similar to your chassis.
any help would be appreciated.

thanks jerry

Johnny O
12-13-2007, 02:32 PM
Jerry, I am not sure on pipe sizes back I can measure it up for you. I know they are chromonly. I think they are no smaller than 1.5"

Johnny O
12-13-2007, 02:37 PM
I also started with the motor and it is together on the stand. So just have to put on tranny on and put it in. Then start with the break-in pt.

RobT5580
12-13-2007, 03:28 PM
What machine shop do you use? I was thinking about shipping my block to ERL because they have a name and the pricing was pretty much what i paid a local shop. I definately don't want problems like i had before with the shop and on my own.

now that i look at it again it does look like 1.5"... thanks

one other question... what are the NHRA rules when you tube the front end?
would i have to get the chassis NHRA certified?
would it make a difference in the class? sfwd ect...

 sounds like you are finally getting it going, good luck with the break-in.i am sure there are videos to come in the near future...

that reminds me do you have that 10 sec run on video?

Johnny O
12-16-2007, 10:06 AM
It is not consider to be tube front end because i still have the stock towers and frame rails, that is more for safety. I have a full cage so i have to get it certi. by NHRA. What i did migth make a difference in SFWD. We just have to wait for the new rules to come out. I have alot of 10 sec runs, i have to figure out how to get it on the memory card off the video camera.

well i dont think i will have the cash to jump on it right away, so i can wait for the rules to come out. I like the way your car is set up,seems alot easier to work on or pull the engine. i am lookin at an 8pt cage to start with and i am trying to keep it somewhat streetable. I want to try to make the front end(how would you call it?) 2-way.i want to be able to pop the hood as it would stock, and be able to remove the entire front clip just as easy without adding an ass load of weight. ill figure that out later.. What does your car weigh in at?

hmmm..all i do with my camera is plug in the usb and windows takes care of the rest..i am running windows xp though.
did you install the software for your cam? is it the same cam that you took the h22/chassis pics with?

AccordEpicenter

Johnny O
12-17-2007, 06:28 PM
The 8pt is good but you can go all the way and do a 10 pt.I could remove the hood and fenders but it isn't one piece. I use all the stock mounting pts.I have to do the video camera, put i took the pictures with my video camera.

Well the bad luck continues. Went to the track yesterday and on the first run in 4th gear the tranny broke under load and it may have went into 3rd but it was boucing of the rev limiter and dropped a valve. So cylinder #1 piston is shot but in the process of getting it back together. By the way i ran a 12.4 @90mph, well pedaling it and short shifting.

I don't crazy in power
H22A more high technology than A20A with VTEC and Twin Cam.
I will modified my H22A later.
200 HP that enough for me now because I use this car everyday.
well you have to understand his is a drag car for the track only. having that much power on the street in a front wheel drive car is pretty useless. it's for knocking you back in the seat and getting down the drag strip as fast as possible.

a little clarification... Yes, the car did make multiple passes in the 10's, but that was with an A20 (boosted obviously). The A20 met its maker when a rod let go and that was that. At that point Johnny had the option of working up another A20 block, or going H. ...guess which route he took? ...this setup should be able to make those past numbers (with the A20) look like childs' play. It's just got to hold together long enough to make some very good pulls. (sorry John, I had to say it. :stick: )

if you could that much power then yes, you could beat half the fags.

best pic of Johnny's car is when he came to a meet with it on the trailer. I will dig it up this weekend.

Congrats Johnny! Glad to see that you have stuck with it.

does Tommy have an H22A swap?? This is news to me!!
