I have a '86 LX-i hatchback and right now I have the stock stereo, but my boyfriend is selling his car and wants to install his Xplod in my Honda for me. The car he's taking it from is a '90 Subaru Legacy, and I was just wondering if I'm going to need a dash kit for him to install it? I could go to car toys and ask them, but who knows what they know.

Thanks in advance (:

UH.

if your smart you get a wire harness!

That way if you ever decide to upgrade, reinstall OEM radio, sell car, etc

Also most after market harness come with the wire codes so you dont screw up!

you can go back and you don't mess up the factory harness that would take tons of $ to replace or repair!

when i do a radio all i use from the harness is the 2 power lines and the neg line and i runn new spker wire it beter and cleerer then the stock speker wireing so why speed money if you can very easyly just cut the 3wires u need?

Because no one wants a rats nest of wires in their dash more so than they need. I'm not going to lie, I've spliced a few into my cars in my day, but all my cars end up in the junkyard anyway so whatev. :thumbdn:

Just get a harness and be done with it.

i have 2 12" p5s in my hatch they were being pushed by a xm-ds1600p5 until it died. that's 1600 watts. i destroyed an alternator with it. it's loud. sometimes it's too loud. so loud that it's literally moved my hair, but when you turn them down, they're clean and responsive. i'd reccommend going with 10's though.

it not a rats nest if u only cut 3 wires

stock wires handle the power...no need to rewire the whole car.

I always use a harness when upgrading a headunit. It makes life that much easier and unless you are pushing mass amounts of power, the stock wires will handle the job.

Oh yeah, do upgrade your speakers when you put the new headunit in. My stockers were disintegrated and sounded awful.

leave the deck alone. run rca cables from the deck to the amp, run like a 12g or 10g from the amp to the speakers. i only run tweeters from the headunit.

if you don't have an amp for your components, then i wouldn't bother with rewiring. i think someone said that already though.

If your talking installing a "real fancy" unit, i wouldn't use a single millimeter of stock wiring. 100% fresh rewiring is a necessity if you want 100% clean sound and adequate power to your head unit. The factory wiring shares grounds, power leads, etc. Who wants electrical noise from the dash lighting running through your system?
