i notice inside the car i smell heaps of exhaust fumes, i doubt its cause of the charchole canister cause wouldnt i be smelling fresh un-burnt fuel?

also it gets really bad, have to have all the windows down for it to go away, i think its very dangerous... how could these fumes be getting inside the car???

They probably come in the car from the heater ducts or around the shifter area.

Check for small exhaust leaks.

if you are smelling exhaust leak, check the downpipe. especially the flex pipe. also check entire exhaust.

if the flex pipe is that wirey quitar-string patternd thingy i noticed that it was comming apart when i done the alternator.... could that be a problem?? if so, i can just bolt on my one from my other car right?

the flex pipe is welded to the down-pipe, but bolts up to the cat. so yeah, you gotta take it to a shop.

If you can get the down pipe off your old car, and get it off the cat you can replace it that way. pretty much replacing the whole down pipe. Oh, if you do do that, replace the gasket on the exhaust.

have them check the rest of the pipeing while they fix the flex pipe, if that is the original exaust then its probably top rusted, you cant see the rest holes becuse it rusts from top down normalyright after the cat, check around your trunk aswell for holes becuse if fumes get in the trunk they will fill the cabin up aswell

While the car is cold, jack it up. Start it up, jump underneath it & feel around the exhaust, especially around where the doughnut gasket is. It's between the header & downpipe. (mostly likely leaking there) Then work your way down feeling for the leak. Don't get too close & burn yourself. Too easy....

^^i can see why that would cause a leak, but how could it get inside the car??

but how could it get inside the car?? Gas & exhaust fumes find their way in the car, rather through vents below the windsheild or any other means they can. They just do.
