Well my Friends Coco,George and I started pulling out the engine and trans today from my 3G we got everything disconnected and all the fluids drained, I still have to assemble the newly rebuilt engine and wait for my friend at the transmission shop to finish rebuilding my 5speed, I cant wait for it to be done, finally going from automatic to manual transmission :bandance:
Here's some pics of the engine I took from the donor car I have and some of the engine after I got it back from the machine shop. Stock rebuild but the block was bored out to .020

We haven't really gotten much done on the engine, I'm still waiting on my transmission to come back from my buddies shop so in the mean time my wife and I started to clean off all the grease and gunk from the engine bay.
And she decided to remove and re-tape the wiring harness.
Here's a few pics from what we did today.

Things started to go well today, the weather was great everything in the engine compartment tightened and connected, My buddy and I got the wiring done for the reverse lights and everything was good.
We finally finished double checking everything and adding fluids to the car around 6:30 today, Crank over the engine with the coil disconnected to get the oil pumping, connected the coil and she fired up on the first hit and sounded very strong.
Now this is were it goes bad, I shut it down after letting it run for about 5 seconds and we notice a huge puddle of oil under the car. FVCK I think and hope it's a screwed up rear main seal, the leak is between the trans and engine.
Anyone else have any idea what it might be, did we miss something on the back of the block? is there some kind of oil galley plug back there like on a Chevy small block.
Ugh...I am so tired and frustrated, I feel so much like giving it up, but I wont let this little setback hold me back...

Sorry to hear about the oil leak! I bet you get the header Monday. I will send the downpipe as soon as I can find a good and safe box for it. I'm going down to get new bolts for my header to bolt to the downpipe. I'll get you some if I do. You will need a gasket where the header meets the downpipe to. I used a gasket from a subaru my friend gave me last time. I'll look into it and figure out which subaru it's from. It's a solid copper gasket which works better than the paper ones. I can't wait to see the header on that clean beautiful engine!

I don't recall but a couple freeze plugs on the back side, one on the head & maybe one on the block. Did you look at the end of the crankshaft for a ring worn by the old rear main seal? I have had to sleeve the crankshaft from this before. (not on these Honda Accords)
When installing the rear main seal, it is supposed to be lubed with grease on the inside. So it doesn't wear a ring on the crankshaft & start to leak. Anyhow, you'll see what is going on when you pull the transaxle out.

I'm hoping it's nothing serious, this engine came out of the donor car and it ran good, no leaks. So I'm hoping it's just a fubar seal, the machine shop that did the work on the block would of noticed something wrong if there was a problem, the shop was recommended to me by few of the local hot rod guys who have dealt with him for years.
I'll PM you once I get it apart if I have any questions.

LOL, thats the same thing i did. My A/C didnt have a belt and it looked beat so i decided to take it out instead of putting money into it when i dont use it anyway. It was a good amount of weight though between the compressor, bracket, condensor, bolts and lines.

I decided to finish up the CAI and with the help of Mrs.Picopop we finished it up. And before you say anything about my bypass I bought a AEM one, off of Ebay but I ordered the wrong size so for the meantime I'm going to use the one, it's a cheap one but at least I have something on there. Oh well here's the pics.

It absolutely beautiful in that engine bay, but I do have to tell you that a bypass valve on an intake makes the CAI part completely useless. Try taking a straw and making a slit in it half way up. You will get the same effect, it just makes the air draw in through the bypass valve and not the lower part.

Well as long as you can stay away from the water, you should be alright. CAI kinda scare me, cause you never know what you might run into driving around. Either way, the bypass valve jsut makes that a short ram.

That bypass valve, if properly designed, will never ever go into effect unless the CAI filter is submerged or for what ever reason completely blocked from air flow. With that said, I'd keep it in.

Can you explain to me exactly how that works, there are no mechanisms inside. So the round filter(bypass valve) realizes that lower filter is submerged and them opens up. Honestly do some research, they do keep the engine from getting water I dident deny that, but they make the intake system not a CAI, just a short ram.

Air pressure. Man has used air pressure for many centuries, nothing mechanical at all.

Exactly air pressure, cut a hole (the entire diameter of the straw) in the top of a straw and figure out where the air is being sucked though. It might bring a little air from the bottom of the straw, but most will be sucked in through the hole at the top. It has to do with the path of least resistance. Im not going to whore this thread anymore, if you would like say something else we can start a discussion thread about it or take it to PM's.

exactly... a proper bybass will be more resistant to letting air through than the cone filter. as long as the filter on the end is flowing, the bypass stays closed. once there is resistance on the filter, the bypass opens.

from what I understand the AEM ones stay completely closed unless there is a lot of suction. the cheaper ones probably just use more restrictive filters which might let some air in

check out this article for info on AEM bypasses: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/tech/0104scc_aem_air_bypass_valve/

Ok with a little help from frantik and some research, I have concluded that the AEM bypass valve actually does what it is suppose to. All the other "no name" bypass valve I have checked out in person, truly do not work. So if you plan on getting one I guess get the AEM one. Keep in mind that I have read plenty of stories were even the AEM didnt work. Whatever you choose good luck and sorry for the thread jack, I just want to make sure nobody goes and wasit their money then waist their engine.

Dude since I cut mine on weird angles just follow the one that frantik wrote up,IMO onece you make the the cut on the piece from the throttlebody just use your own judgement on the rest of the bends/cuts, since my bends were out of place thats the reason I moved the battery.
