question for you on the nap-z. i have a KA24 in my HB, and i was wondering if there was anything else i should do while i'm doing my timing chain. i've been thinking about a cam and a "while it's apart" headgasket job. is there anything else that you'd attack while you were in there? oil pump? water pump? muffler bearings? just looking for a mild increase in power with a cam while i'm in there doing my timing chain.

My oil pump was up under the oil pan, might as well replace it along with the water pump. As for as an increase with a cam. I'm not so sure what performance mods there are for it than a little port & polish on the head maybe.

EDIT- This is a rebuilt carburator I done a while back.

Man it looks like you got bit. You start working on one car, then pretty soon you're working on everybodies cars. Its fun stuff and amazing how similar all the basic parts are, then how different some things can be. In the end, it all is just there to turn an output shaft.

Yeah 2ndGenGuy, I work as a technician.

Here is a Ford Focus ZX3 that needs some head work on. This is mad JDM 2.0 ZTAK yO!

Intake removed...

Ah well that would explain why you work on so many cars! :)

Now does that ZX3 head not have rockers? It looks like those cam lobes push directly on the valves. My friends old 8-valve Rabbit GTI is like that, I never knew that they did that in a DOHC configuration too.

is that ford engine similar in any way to the mazda FS series engine (2.0 litre, used in the 626, MX6, and probe)?

The head has camshaft followers that the cam rides on to push down on the valves. Pretty much reduces friction.

I'm not sure on the whether it is similar to Mazda 626 or Probe. I haven't done much work on either cars.

Anyhow, what appeared to be a head issue ended up being a couple crack pistons. #1 & #3 are broke between the ring lands.

This thread is not for replies, OK!!

Here is what is left of the motor from being pulled. It is cheaper to get a used motor for $290 than to rebuild it for about $500-$600.

Here is a Dodge Intrepid 2.7 engine pull. These cars suck with engine problems, such as timing chains, engine sludge. I've allready got another 2.7 rebuilt, cause we have about 12 Intrepids to keep up with. CHRYSLER= POS. EDIT- This motor had to be pulled cause it was beyond fixing without a rebuild, it knocked & smoked like a freight train.

2.7 ready to pull.

This is a D-16Z6 engine in a 95 Civic with 1.6 liters. Timing belt, oil pan gasket & front seal replaced. This car has 148,000 miles on it & it look like it had the original timing belt on it. More work was done, like brakes & etc.

Pic of motor & old belt.

Replaced the head gaskets & timing belt on this 96 Monte Carlo Z34 - 3.4 DOHC engine. This was probably one of the hardest timing belt jobs I've done without a cam hold down tool, which is needed. But I done the job without it.

Here is a 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 Liter motor. This is what happens when you run the motor out of oil. :uh: The piston broke apart & the crank pushed the broken piston out of the side of the block after it hit the bottom. (looks like it threw a rod from the pic ) Motor only had 90k miles on it. I had to replace it with a Jasper engine..
