I have an 1987 accord 5-speed manual transmission lxi that is making a sound while driving, had a mechanic look at it he thinks it is the input bearing in the transmission. I got quotes on rebuilding the transmission or putting in a replacement transmission; putting in a replacement transmission seemed less expensive.

I have a transmission for a 1989 accord dx. The place that I got this from said it will work with my 1987 accord lxi. I checked on the 1989 dx, says it has a 2.0L I-4 SFI SOHC engine. My 1987 accord lxi has a 4-119 FI-1.95L engine.

Does anyone know if the 1989 accord dx transmission will work with the 1987 accord lxi?

Second question is, I got some of the transmission seals for the 87 Lxi transmission (not Honda parts). The place I got them from says all the parts (axle seal, input shaft seal) are the same for all accords 1984-1993, and that the dx or lxi didn't make a difference on those parts.

I got them and looked at the ones on the 89 DX; they don't look like they're the right size. The parts place checked the parts he had ordered, says those are the ones he shows as being correct for that vehicle. Does anyone have any experience with this? Are there any other seals or attachments that I might need to order to put the replacement transmission in my car?

I need to know this as soon as possible so that I can get my car worked on!! Thanks!!

Well I know you can use a DX/LX Transmission on a LX-i/SE-i No problem.

The Carb tranny will net you better fuel economy then the EFI variant.

On SEALS I dont have a clue but I know all DX/LX/LX-i/SE-i Trannys share the Same CV Axles as long as your going 5 Speed to 5 Speed or Auto to Auto.

The Automatic and Manuals share the same passenger side CV Axle but use different drivers side axles

the 89 dx trans should fit into the lx-i the only difference is the gears...they are a bit taller but they should swap in with no problem. replace your clutch and resurface your flywheel while you are in there.

I'd go on like http://www.rockauto.com and compare part numbers

My brother and I replaced the transmission oil seals with Honda seals, also replaced the speedo sensor seal. They aren't leaking, so if i were you, i would go with Honda seals.
