You're gonna make a digital shop manual? Man that's over the top cool! The 1g manuals tend to get a little spendy. But make sure you specify the year, as the 1g's varied year to year.

What amazes me is that the non-US manuals have the info for all the cars from around the world. The US one only has the US cars. Kinda annoying. I've got a manual for my 2g that I purchased from the UK. It shows the rear disc brakes, anti-lock brakes, and other interesting tidbits that we didn't get here. But I guess it doesn't show the complicated US emission control systems.

Except that the Non-US manuals don't include any US or CVCC EK 1751 Info.
One manual per engine. US & Japan seem to have been the only major markets with the CVCC engines...

I think that's the manual I've got, though mines published late '78 for the '79 model changes. Always wanted to scan it so as not to get it any dirtier than it already is, but didn't think my camera up to it neatly enough! Photographing each page separately would be a painfull process though. You got a PDF equivalant from somewhere?

Would be good to be able to compare the other year/market 1st Gen Accord manuals to pick the differences. Though a complete Honda parts book might show them too -if it included both CVCC & NON-CVCC.
Interesting enough to see the different wheels, grilles, tail-lights, bumpers & distinctive Sedan bonnet that only Canada, (& presumably the US & Japan) seem to have got shown in the '79 manual.

Trust me, it's a good thing you don't have all that emissions stuff.

Over here, the 76 and 77 Accord manuals were the yellowish/brownish and white book cover that says "Shop Manual" at the top, with the steering wheel. I believe one FSM covered both the 76 and 77 Accords in the US. Starting in 78, the books are silver for the Accord. I'll be damned if you don't think the books are the exact same from say 79 to 81. Then, you get looking really close in the books and notice that there are differences in the pictures, diagrams, and sketches among the different years. Helms manuals make my life easier, but I still get fooled from time to time.

You know what's even weirder? Until the Internet, I thought the 80 and 81 Accords were 100% the same. You get looking at the cars bit by bit and they make look the same overall, but there are some pretty major differences. Ouside, they are pretty close. It's all in the details gentlemen, and we have to be super careful when we go to do ANYTHING involving parts on these cars! Man, those guys were nuts back then... all the subtle design changes that the end user had no idea about. Honda, we're on to you... 20 years later. 76-81 is not what I used to think it was for sure.

Hi
I already scanned most of the 1978 manual in high quality, as Hazwan knows ;). Is there a possibility to collect our scans online, so that not everybody do the same job again? But what about copyrights?
There are many different 1st gen. manuals, we should arrange it according to the Honda No. on the backside (left, bottom).

Most of my manuals are in German language, but these i got in English:
1976 Supplement #6267121 (referring to 1976 Civic, sure!)
1977 Shop Manual #6267100
1978 Shop Manual #6267101
1978 4d Sedan Supplement #6267100Z
1979 Body Repair #6267180
(1979 Shop Manual with 1980 / 81 supplements I got only in German)

My part lists are all 3 language (English, French, German)
2 door Hatch:
1977 SJ-800/810 #1767104
1978 SJ-800/810 #1767106
1979 SJ-820/830, SJ-332/333/532/533 #17671123

4 door Sedan:
1978 SJ-810 #1767201
1978 SJ-820 #176721Z1
1979 SJ-820/830, SJ-342/343/542/543 #17671123

I think, "SJ" is the code for the main export model, except US (and Japan?) models got different codes, with it's CVCC engines.
In Europe we got the 1600 "EG" engine first (1976 - 78), later in 1979 the 1602 "EL" engine, both non CVCC. With "EL" in 1979, the Accord got many more changes, body, suspension and interior looks nearly the same, but are not...

I hope that wasn't too hard for you.

later in 1979 the 1602 "EG" engine
I presume you meant the EL engines.

My own Honda references for NON US spec. include:
9/78(1979 1st edition) Shop Manual #6267102
2/79(1979 2st edition) Shop Manual #6267102
11/79(1980 1st edition) Suppliment #6267220

& the Parts Catalogue:
12/83 Prelude SN[E,Q]type {3} covering 1979,'80,'81,'82 models #176920E3
which should largely match equivalent years Accords drivetrain wise [EL].

& Online reference to the US Honda Dealer Partsbook:
http://www.slhondaparts.com/browse.asp?Model=ACCORD&Year=1979
out of curiosity about the US EK model engines. (you have to type in the model year yourself to 'force' it into the older models)

I've also been meaning to ask about my local Honda Car Club (est 1971) library to see if they had any others that might be in a format that could easily be scanned (ie ringbound).

I don't have much respect for the (UK?) Haynes manual after noticing it didn't even recognise the change of engine for 1979-on models.

Detlef

Presume you meant the EL engines.

Many thanks, of course, I meant EL! (It's already corrected)

[QUOTE=79cord]I hope that wasn't too hard for you.QUOTE]

No, it started step by step, with Hazwans restoration over the last two years. He asked some things and I scanned the chapter...
10 - 15 pages at one time are not so much work and by the time the manual is nearly complete.

I heard about 'free online webspace'. Is it possible to use this for a manual compilation, is there anyone who got experiences with this?

I have seen some w/shop manuals included in the YAHOO groups.... & also spotted CARDOMAIN is about to add a 'Groups' area if that could be used?

There's a HONDATECH website that already has a number of Honda W/shop manuals availible....If they were interested in another?

Here in Germany we got silly copyright laws. Even showing sales brochures on private homepages can be expensive, if there is no direct agreement with the copyright owner. Don't know, how this is in other countrys, but I'm worried about showing manual scans on a public page.

So, is it possible to use webspace with a keylock, for forum users only?

Detlef

There was an official page with manuals, Honda.uk I think, can't find it now, got somebody a direct link?
There are already many manuals as PDF files, but started later in the 80s, 1st gen Accord did not appear. Should we ask there, if they are interested in our scans, for completing their collection?

I suppose that means the rest of us should get organised to complete the collection properly -frightening. All years; EK&EL.

The Honda UK official website does have some manuals online though you can't readily get them in their entireity; viewing page by page.
