ohh i see someone was reading sport compact car magazine.
i think it is ok to run turbo on 9.1, 9.5 compretion as long as you don't crank it up boost. plus that engine probbaly has some nice internals.

trust me, that is one low boosting turbo. hehehe, mazda bitches. what is the displacement anyways? a good turbo does not have a 9.1 comp. as u know mike. :flip:

You need to have decent compression so the car has power when not in boost. The Eclipse and those cars have like 8:1 compression but are gutless until the boost builds up. The owner of a local speed shop here is puting in higher compression pistions in his 4G63 so he has more power, and just knock timing down. Should make the car more drivable and keep it out of boost.

if the compression is higher, that means more off-boost power and when the boost kicks in hold on to your ass! why is everybody affraid of higher compression ratios? just use better gas and run less timming. 93octane is only $2 more per 10gal (stl.), will $2 realy break you.

you can run 10+ CR easy with boost if you tune it right.

its no different in the end as for as compression, but drives so much better.

well with very careful ecm tunning you can run 10:1 with 20 psi of boost if you want. it just a matter of scalling the timing values and having a veyr twitchy knock sensor.

and if you're realy hardcore you will beast the compression over 12:1 and use forced induction. behold the powers of dynamic compression.

130 octane aviation fuel :)
thats how guys have chevy 350's with 9.5:1 CR or more and a 671 blower
it has such a wonderful smell but can be kinda hard to find depending where you live

yea and if you noticed they are runnin i think like 6 pounds of boost..... turn the boost up and watch that motor go BOOM

That's about right, no?

if someone would know how to read or do basic math you might understand what i am talking about. if the cheap gas is $1.50, middle grade is $1.60, and 93 octane is $1.70 then the differance is $0.20 (between 87oct and 93oct), so we take $0.20 (which the differance) and times that by 10 gallons. (0.20 dollars)(10 gallons)=$2 per gallon, have any of you taken a math class or are you still trying to install neon lights? in never said gas was 0.20 per gallon, only the differance was. math, it's the wave of the future.

I just got through reading the artical in Car-and-Driver september issue on the turbo Protege. Well, not very impressive to me considering they used the same base model motor did not change any of the internals and put a very mildly (6.9psi) boosted turbo on it. I mean if you put a 7lb. boost on the A20A3 it would put out just as much hp if not more and it's a SOHC 3valve/cyl and 15 year old motor. The Protege only putting out 87.5hp/L. that's pathetic from a turbo motor.

just my .02 cents.

the accord will put out about 180hp at 7psi of boost

hey speaking of turbos, wut yall think about one from a SAAB 900. i saw the turbo on it and thought i could hook that up on my car . ya allot of work but i dont think that turbo would be much good for alot of power. also one from a volvo turbo. should i just forget about that shit or go for it. i dont know if either of these would do much to the hp gains. tell me wut yalls thinks

If it's cheap, I'd like to try it..

Those are Klein or Garrett turbo's on the Saab's. It's a good base point to go with, usually a T-3 with a .52 in it. I don't like the Mitsu turbo's cause in the long run they blow their oil seals.
